Centers need the second player usually another elite wing or guard to get over the top

Without Murray’s coming to become playoff Murray again. I don’t think Denver wins last night game.

Harden great game won game 1 vs Boston without embiid. Harden grear game also won game 4 with embiid.

Pretty much tells you what you need to know. Without elite perimeter players who handle the ball often to contribute 25-30 a night. It won’t matter what a center does.

Embiid played well in game 3 and harden/maxey sucked and sixers lost. Harden also sucked in game 6/7 as well. Embiid played decent in game 6 and Maxey kept sixers in game 6. So you need a second player to player well with an elite center.

You say Embiid needs a playoff performer who shows up to win? What about Jimmy Butler?

When Embiid had Butler as his teammate against the Raptors Embiid averaged 17.6 ppg on 37% shooting and had more turnovers than assists. Part of the reason perimeter players play so well with Jokic is because of his passing.

2023 playoff stats:

Jokic: 30, 14, and 10, 62.9 TS%, 32.9 PER
Embiid: 24, 10, and 3, 56.1 TS%, 20.3 PER

And don’t talk about defense when Embiid got cooked by Tatum.

In my opinion switching Embiid with Jokic in Phila 2018-19 that team would have won everything...

Jokic
Harris
Butler
JJ Redick
Ben Simmons

I remind everyone that Jokic in the 2019 Playoffs (14 games) averaged 25.1ppg/13.1reb (3.9oreb)/8.4ast ts% 0.594 GmScore= 24.5

In the ECSemi Embiid had a GmScore of 11.8 and with practically only Jimmy Butler Phila came one step away from eliminating Toronto.

I watched the game last night. A player only needs to get hot at the right time. Tatum was 1-14 until the last 6 minutes of the 4th quarter of game 6 in sixers. Celtics would likely lost that game and the series.

Murray got hot. That’s what’s needed to win. Murray doesn’t get hot. It’s likely a different outcome.

I am not diminishing the center position. I am saying the perimeter players determine the playoff outcome the most in the playoffs.

Is Aaron Gordon determining the outcome of playoff games for Denver?? No. Is Tobias Harris determining the outcome of games for the sixers? No. It was harden or maxey.

Jamal Murray wiothout Jokic would be leading the charge for Wembanyama.

Jokic without Murray has lead to a first and second round exit for Jokic

You need perimeter players/wings to finish off close playoff games. I don’t know how some of you guys can’t under this. Elite center players get u so far. Shaq needed Kobe and dwade to finish off games. It’s been that way for close to 3 decades. Hakeem was the last true center to be the closer even Tim Duncan needed manu and Tony Parker.

Breaking news: you cannot win if your teammates are atrocious! More at eleven!

Of course Jokic wasn't able to win with Facundo Campazzo and Austin Rivers. However, if Murray played in those series with a center of Campazzo's quality, the results would've been far worse.

I disagree. Jokic would fair quite better if he had a good defensive PF, in the mold of JJJ, instead of Murray. If he had JJJ he would have already be a champion. Murray exaggerates Jokics weakness by being trash at defending.

I do agree that superstars alone cant win, bar some string of lucky events. I would even concede that teams usually need two players that can create for themeselves and others. But i will disagree that a team needs a star guard to win or go deep into the playoffs.

He was bad tonight to be honest. There is no reason for him to not to make quick movies on Hachimura like in the fourth quarter. He should stop with those weak ass fade away shots over him, there is no way he can guard Jokic when Jokic is aggressive.

I never thought Jokic would get “exposed” because I always knew he was a great player but he exposed me for believing front runner and the James Harden of big men, Joel Embiid was ever better than him. I humbly eat a big pile of crow. The debate is officially dead and now he’s just pouring it on.

Much respect Jok, he’s getting his first ring this season…shout-out Murray, who no one seems to talk about although he’s been good as pretty much anyone these Playoffs himself.

Nuggets should be thankful these two teams are in seperate conferences becauses Embiid would cook him in any match up. Embiid made him look like a bench player.

You lose.

He had a 14 point 4th quarter and absolutely dominated and took over when needed.

It got to the point where he was impossible to guard either he scored or created an open man on the weak side.

Best player in the world and it isn’t really debatable.

Yeah, just a terrible 30, 14, and 13 game by Jokic tonight. Too bad he can’t be like Embiid and put up 15, 8, and 1 in a game.

Yeah, but this particular thread is my favorite because the OP has been a huge Jokic hater for years constantly dismissing everything he's done.

Why are you quoting my post which was written after game # 3  He did have the poor first half in this game too but was very good in the second half.

Chokebiid has played with Jimmy Butler and James Harden, two of the best wings in the NBA over the last decade.

Jimmy: 6x All-Star, 5x All-NBA, 5x All-Defense
Harden: 10x All-Star, 7x All-NBA, MVP

Murray: 0x All-Star, 0x All-NBA

Number of conference finals appearances:

Chokebiid: 0
Jokic: 2

Chokebiid has been on some of the most stacked teams in the NBA over the last 6 years yet he's continued to choke, year after year, in the second round. He expects his wings to carry him. That's not how it works. Guys like Jokic and Shaq produce at an elite level, regardless of how their wing is playing, to always give the team a chance. Embiid plays like a scrub and expects his wing to take over. Then he blames his teammates when the team loses.

Jokic balled out on defense tonight. He's been solid all postseason, but it looks like he's turned it up a notch lately. So impressed.
