They need a durable point guard. Giddey is a nice tall PG with upside. Caruso is at his ceiling as defensive guard. Also, they maybe ready to move on from Lonzo Ball:

Chet's not a center. He's too skinny, gets pushed around easily. Better as PF. They need a beefy athletic center who can at least slow down the bigs in West. Hartenstein from Knicks would be a nice fit. Knicks won't be able to re-sign him. Do a sign and trade deal. OKC should trade for a big from Timberwolves.

Yeah OKC can absorb Lopez into their cap space without needing to trade any players away. If they wanted to, for Milwaukee, they could re-sign Gordon Hayward to a small deal if the Bucks felt they could use him off the bench. Otherwise, a couple picks should get the job done.

This just makes Milwaukee worse though. I get trading Lopez if an upgrade is possible for the Bucks, but this team is definitely in championship or bust mode. Trading Brook and getting back a washed Gordon Hayward would be downright silly.

Bulls clearly didn't want to give Caruso a 4-year deal next year.

Great move by OKC.

OKC is a clear winner in this trade i think. Caruso is a 3 and D point guard. Giddey can push the pace and pass the ball but he is a guard who cant shoot. Caruso and Dort in the backcourt is really good defensively.

Oh I'm with you. I just don't see many other teams being able to trade some as well as picks like the Thunder can for one year of Lopez. Maybe if the Bucks could get Dieng, as well, they'd consider it.

How so? i think this means they pursue him even more. Someone will overpay for him and could be OKC?

Isn't Giddey a free agent after next season too? IIRC Caruso and Giddey contracts expire at the same time, so the new contract problem exists on both sides.

Caruso is being overrated just a tad here.. Giddey has 25/10 potential fairly easily in an iso system such as the Bulls run.. Caruso is a great Dort replacement which is likely the idea

Yeah I don't like having Caruso Dort and SGA. That's too small for perimeter defense. I want a proper physical 6'7" SF who can at least match up with Kawhi or PG and the likes. Otherwise size becomes a problem for OKC both on the inside and perimeter. They are SKINNY and small as is.

It's not ideal but it can work against most matchups.

25 and 10?

Then you say that OKC has a Dort replacement in Caruso. You just watched Boston put four elite defenders on the floor in White/Holiday/Brown/Tatum and completely destroy the Mavs with it and you really think the Thunder are trying to move Dort when they can now sic him and Caruso on Luka?

25 points?!?

Giddey has maybe 18/9/9 potential but letting him handle the ball enough to get 18 points and 9 assists means your team won't win more than 30 games.

His only way out of this catch 22 is becoming a respectable 3pt shooter. Not impossible but not likely either imo.

slick_watts wrote:this is interesting for the thunder because it seems like a portent to more moves, since it seems unlikely they'd start caruso in giddey's spot. so something with lu dort or a bigger acquisition to replace the giddey hole must be coming imo.

Dort or Caruso will be moved for a big like Isaiah Stewart or Karl Anthony Towns.
