All of the Key Arena noise is squarely in the lap of Ed Murray and his corrupt crony at the Port. Murray will be gone soon, before the final decision is made, and we'll get someone in there who wants it in SODO. If you watched the debate you'd see that a lot (if not almost all) of the candidates want it there instead of Seattle Center. McGinn and Farrell do. I think Durkan does. The only one I remember saying she wanted it in Seattle Center was Moon and there's no way she wins.

Durkan is the clear front-runner & she's Pro-KeyArena. Moon finished 2nd in the primaries btw.

She won’t let her love for the Sonics interfere with a decision expected this summer by Mayor Murray on whether or not the city should remodel KeyArena, in an attempt to lure an NBA or NHL team to Seattle.

It is bad public policy to try and unwind big decisions that the public has been involved in", said Durkan.

She's been endorsed by Murray himself! Once Key gets the green-light, there's no stopping it. Sodo's dead. It's a done deal!

The real question is: will you drop allegiance to your current favorite team in favor of the Sonics?

I've been asked this question more than once lol. The Sonics were my first love. Always will be. Became a fan at an early age.

Growing up in Seattle during the 90's, it was kinda hard not to be!

Shawn Kemp & Gary Payton were my idols. I met Detlef Schrempf & he signed a ball for me when I was very young. I still have a photo of it somewhere. :D

I went to a lot of games during the early 2000's. The last game I went to was in 2006. The same year the OKC group bought the team. I went to fanfest & got free tickets. The team left the following year. :(

I still bleed Green & Gold. Always will!

I have not seen Sonics gear on the street in some time despite living in Portland and traveling to Seattle from time to time. I think it could be considered hipster gear at this point, with how rare it is to come across.

It's around. I hope it's mostly fake though.

If this KeyArena renovation/rebuilt comes to fruition, it won't be completed before 2020.

I'm also still not sure if the NBA is really that important to OVG and Leiweke, given that they mostly talk about the NHL and concerts.

As soon as an area deal is reached, whether it's a large-scale renovation or a new facility, the league will set the time table for an expansion. Seattle and/or the ownership group just have to put up the funds and make a deal, once that happens the SuperSonics will return to the NBA. There's been way too much indication that the league is ready for it to believe that it won't happen.

It looks like baseball is considering expansion to 32 teams. That would mean all pro leagues except the NBA have 32, so I've got to imagine the NBA will be looking at expanding sooner rather than later, especially with the Seattle arena gaining steam:

If they to go 32 teams, I'd like to see:

Expansion:
*Seattle and Vegas (or Vancouver)

Regular Season:
*4 divisions of 8 teams (No Conferences)
*76 game season
*4 games (2 home / 2 away) vs your own division (28 games) / 2 games (1 home / 1 away) vs every other team (48 games)

Division 1: BOS, BRK, CHA, MIA, NYK, ORL, PHI, WAS
Division 2: ATL, CHI, CLE, DET, IND, MIL, MIN, TOR
Division 3: DAL, DEN, HOU, MEM, NO, OKC, SA, UTH
Division 4: GS, LAC, LAL, PHX, POR, SAC, SEA, LV (or VAN)

Playoffs:
*Top 1-8 seeds (including all division winners) get bye to 2nd round.
*1st round, seeds 9-24 play best of 3 series, the 8 winners advance to final 16.
*2nd round, best of 5 series
*3rd round, best of 7 series
*Finals, best of 9 series

Lottery:
*Seeds 25-32 play in NCAA style knockout tournament for top pick. Winner gets the #1 pick. The other 7 teams enter into a draft lottery for the remaining positions.

(If a team in the tournament traded away their 1st round pick, they are excluded from the tournament and their opponent gets a bye to the next round. Their draft position is based on their regular season position. If they were the worst team, they get bumped down from the #1 pick)

Is Minnesota supposed to be in the second grouping?

I'm not sure that the MLB expanding has any bearing on the NBA's decision to expand or not, as much as I would like the NBA to expand. Silver has been pretty consistent in his stance, though it has softened a little recently.

The Raiders move to Vegas is a done deal. I'm not sure I understand the logic here.

The Arena MOU (Seattle Center) will be official come December. You likely won't hear anything about expansion in the near term.

The NHL is a different story in the meantime. Lots of momentum on that front. Could hear something as early as next year in regards to expansion.

didn't know that it was a done deal. I would still add an expansion nba team there farther into the future, but there is a small amount of risk of lost revenue and less backing involved adding a 2nd new pro sports franchise to the same city in a small window of time.

Actually it would be the 3rd sport. Both the NHL (Golden Knights) & NFL (Raiders) have committed to Vegas. I'd be shocked if the NBA doesnt end up there at some point. But, not before Seattle obviously.

I'd imagine if the NBA did announce two teams Seattle and Vegas would be locks.

Seattle a proven market that the NBA can finally undo the wrong of eliminating the Supersonics.

Vegas, because now that the stress is gone on being the first in in sin city, there's no more stigma now that the NHL and NFL have moved there. I can't imagine the NBA passing up on them.

I think they should consider Pittsburgh or if not them KC or StL in addition to Seattle. Those fans all support their teams big time, particularly Pittsburgh...though KC does in football big time.
