I had a bad cough in Jan/Feb, no fever, no body pains but the cough would hurt my chest when I did cough. I also never had this happen before, but I had an overproduction of saliva from it. The only thing that made me feel better was going into the bathroom and turning on the shower for 45 minutes and just sitting there on the toilet while the bathroom steamed up so I could breathe in deep.

You guys probably mostly had the actual flu. This thing is much more contagious than the normal flu... we probably would have seen deaths spiking and outbreaks earlier if you all had it (granted some of that could be hidden in flue data... but I think it's pretty unlikely that a bunch of people had it)

My kids gave it to me. No one tested positive for the flu. It was a non-flu virus according to our docs.

They tested my roommate's daughter in the ER and said, she had a viral infection but it wasn't the flu.

Everyone needs to remain skeptical on the data coming out from China. Today China Mobile had reported to have lost 7.25 million of their customer. That's just one mobile carrier. Let that sink in...

This virus is deadlier than the Chinese trying to suggest...

EDIT: here's the data reported by 3 of the big mobile carriers in China

And to be honest, I still don’t feel ‘right’. The only reason why the numbers are jumping is because they’re finally testing.

Why is it so important to you that it was in the US prior to when it appears to have been?

Not important. Point is we were woefully unprepared and didn’t know what was going on. It just pisses me off that we spend ridiculous amounts on our military but couldn’t be prepared for this.

First of all, we don’t spend enough on our military. Everyone in the military should be making more income.

If your vague argument is we spend too much on defense contracts, bloated federal departments, and the usual government waste — you have an argument.

Second, disaster preparation is nearly impossible at federal level. Meaning, one can run simulations and scenarios for sooooo many doomsday’s to the point it would drain the money you are “pissed” being spent elsewhere.

Third, their is no disaster response of this magnitude that will get an active response passing grade (by any administration on any side of aisle). Until this has passed and a post mortem autopsy can be performed — we accurately can give it a final grade.

However, most importantly we must learn and prepare for next similar but different situation. But realize the next situation of this magnitude will be outside scope of preparation (otherwise wouldn’t be to such magnitude).

So after reading more into the numbers, here's a brief summary:

According to the numbers provided by these 3 mobile carriers, Jan 2020 and Feb 2020 mobile customer = -862000 -7254000 -1186000 +430000 -5600000 meaning -14,472,000 in total. That's not including Feb 2020 numbers from China Unicom.

Maybe but ~104 fever for 3-4 days cold? I had no congestion either. It was intense and at one point I felt like I was going to pass out. I’m one of those ‘never gets sick’ people and was shocked by how hard that episode hit me.

They're only testing the really sick. Florida is the same.

The high % of infections from the tested people is to be expected, since you basically have to pre qualify with a bunch of symptoms and likely exposure to even get a test. The problem is trying to understand how long they've had the virus and where the spread came from, which is impossible when you start testing so late in the game and have near zero opportunity to do any tracing. It makes it that much tougher to track down other possible infections to start quarantining them as well.

My father is a Doctor in NorCal, has a similar medical history, and is infected. Anyone who has, or has had, medical issues related to their respiratory system is considered extremely high-risk, given COVID-19 primarily targets the respiratory system. Even someone with a history of asthma is considered high-risk. The infection has led to him contracting pneumonia, and he has to have his lungs drained frequently. I don’t want to scare you, but your sister should be extremely precautious.

****. I had childhood asthma, that went away by like 8 years old. Hope I'll be okay

Yup, an unprecedented outbreak but something we have known about for Months and we took 0 caution. I hope the American people start electing leaders to lead them.
