Sure, but the Bulls were dealing with injuries and then the chemistry issues because of it. And they’re still not 100% as they’re missing Lonzo.
Lavine has never been to the playoffs due to crappy teams, some his fault and some not, and DeRozan ran into a top 3 player all time in his conference. He still did the most he could, obviously it wasn’t enough, but he’s matured and has a more complete game now.
No one is expecting the Bucks to lose in round one, so the piling on the Bulls and their two stars is weird.
I mean Derozan got labeled an MVP candidate this year for a while because he scored a bunch while they beat up on bums. Just saying. Khris Middleton has been a substantially better player than Derozan for basically their entire careers and yet Derozan gets his flowers despite playing a style of basketball that is 30 years out of date and ineffective. Middleton only gets talked about when someone is trying to put down how good Giannis is.
As far as Bulls injuries, sure they are missing Lonzo, but their roster sucks even with him. They need to play Caruso/Ball together and they need to play Lavine and Derozan. You can't effectively play those 4 together vs decent teams, the lineup doesn't fit for ****. It's a similar issue the Heat have IMO, where the teams can't play their best players together because the fit is so bad. These issues appear nonexistant vs 90% of the league, but are glaringly obvious in the playoffs vs more legit teams.
It’s not DeRozan’s fault others thought he was MVP in a young season, we obviously know he isn’t, and he’d never win it over some of other behemoths in the league right now. He’d maybe have a chance if the Bulls had a better record than the Suns, but they don’t, cause they were never good enough. Regarding Middleton, come on he’s never face the brunt of a defense like DeMar has over their careers. I’m sure DeMar would look much better as a player if he had Giannis developing next to him in Toronto. Middleton was also lackluster this year, dealing with injuries and stuff, this has been a down year for him.
On the point that the Bulls roster sucks without Lonzo, well it was clicking when he was in the lineup, and they were performing well, then he got injured, Caruso too, then Lavine, even in the beginning of the season Williams got injured. It’s been shaky. But again, this is a Bucks team is a battle tested championship team led by a player that will end up top 15 all time at least. It’s too much with for Chicago, just a tough draw.
But here’s hoping to an entertaining series regardless
