We LOVE this guy in Utah!
Would I take Philly's 2nd year player? Absolutely. He's good too!

You should love Mitchell. He is awesome.
He has had an amazing year...more than filling the void left by Hayward. It really is a shame that only one FIRST YEAR NBA PLAYER can win the Rookie of the Year award. In any other year it would be Mitchell in a landslide...but this isn’t any ordinary year.
Good luck in the playoffs.

That's the dream scenario for me, love both the teams, Im a Jazz fan, but I love the 76ers and I love watching them play, its a sight.
A Finals Showdown Between the 2 would be EPIC. Hopefully sooner than later.
Utah Jazz for Championship

Highest plus/minus in the NBA since January 24:
1. Donovan Mitchell 11.3
Better plus/minus than Lebron James, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, and everyone else...including...EVERYONE else.

Re: The ROTY/Rookie Discussion Thread, Part III
Lakers seem to have found another late draft stud in Josh Hart.
Haven't watched the game yet but had a nice line against the Jazz:
25 points (56%)/ 4 reb / 1 ast / 2 stl / 2 blk
Saw in the highlights he had a nice block on a dunk attempt by Mitchell. He's looked really good in the 2nd half of the season.
Kuzma and Hart in the same draft. Thomas Bryant has been putting up big numbers in G-League. This was an incredible draft. They hit on 2 late picks for sure and possibly 3 if Bryant becomes their future stretch 5.

Too bad Simmons doesn’t play for the Jazz ,he’d have 20 triples, starters coming back into the game with a 20+ pt lead in the last qtr !! Simmons is normal sitting at that stage !!

At this point, I expect whoever we pick with our late first-round and second round picks to be contributors in their rookie season. Idk who is running their scouting department, but that guy (or gal?) deserves a raise.

Great game by Mitchell but not on the same level as what we saw Simmons put up against the Cavs without Embiid which resulted in the win.

How about this, both players were really good.

Exactly! Both are playing excellent basektball. No reason to s*** on either one of them. I'm a jazz fan and I think Simmons deserves ROY. However I'm incredibly happy that we got DM and from a division rival no less at #12. Heck we weren't even supposed to make the playoffs this year so I'm all sorts of ecstatic right now.

Re: The ROTY/Rookie Discussion Thread, Part III
Excellent game by Mitchell today with Jazz locking up the playoffs.
Josh Hart also with a very strong showing.
Dennis Smith Jr. looked very smooth. Shot the ball efficiently today, and took it strong to the basket as well. He's lightning quick.
O.G. Anunoby also had a very nice game. He had been quiet for a while, so it was good to see him put together a strong game.

Re: The ROTY/Rookie Discussion Thread, Part III
For the record my vote would go for Simmons. I just don't believe it is absurd for people to think its Mitchell or for him to get some votes. Mitchell has been doing some pretty special stuff not seen in years as well. Not many rookies lead their team in scoring and go to the playoffs, and Mitchell may do it for a team that's a 3 seed in the West. On a Jazz broadcast they posted the list of the 4 players who have done it (edit: Ok, only 4 of them had led a 45+ win team in scoring), and the other 4 were Wilt, KAJ, Bird, and David Robinson. That's pretty elite company there.

Re: The ROTY/Rookie Discussion Thread, Part III
The latest Duncd on pod has Nate and Danny splitting the ROTY vote - its an interesting conversation they have. Nate picked Mitchell which is fine, although I've disagreed a number of times with his assessments of Simmons and TBH think he's a bit biased against him, but picking Mitchell for ROTY is quite OK in my opinion.

I guess Simmons deserves it. Not really by much. If Donovan had another 40 or 45 point game I think that would sway the voters bigtime.

Re: The ROTY/Rookie Discussion Thread, Part III
Mitchell has exceeded all expectations, looks a very good player with a great future and is having an amazing scoring season for a Rookie
Tatum has really stepped up without Kyrie, and has done unbelievably well for a Rookie
Kuzma, for a second round pick looks to be the bargain of the draft, and has had a good season for a Rookie
Simmons has had an amazing season.
Difference is there is no "for a rookie" needed for Simmons, he is leading a top team to the playoffs and is already able to challenge the best in the league.

It really, really shouldn't be close. Mitchell has been a stud while Simmons has been historic.
Only player in history to average a triple double over a 10+ game winning streak. As a rookie.
