The Christmas games are a really big deal for ESPN/ABC and if you have games with no stars you’re going to have disastrous ratings. This is the same network that basically had all its on air staff say that the ‘20 season should continue no matter what. So I’m sure they would prefer the league cancel any games this week as long as they get to the 25th

In retrospect, and this is totally hindsight bias, monday morning QB, it seems like they should have just had a built in prescheduled idle to the season about 10-14 days prior to the Christmas day games. Too important to the league to risk. Though I guess that wouldn't preclude players from contracting covid on their own time so even that would be an imperfect solution.

Both teams have had covid cases seemingly every day....Can almost guarantee you another Knicks player tests positive and wouldn't be surprised to see an outbreak within the Warriors since Poole tested positive and then they played Boston.

I was told by RealGM that the vaccine worked.

Strike for baiting and derailing. This is not the place for vaccine debate and it's spelled out very clearly and you know it. -b

It does work...The problem is if there is an unvaccinated player who get covid or a vaccinated player who gets a breakthrough and is symptomatic, then everybody goes through testing. That is why you have teams with no guys on the list.

But all it takes is for one guy to get sick, and well you can see what happens. But the vaccine works. These guys aren't getting very ill.

NBA athletes weren't getting very ill before the vaccines either.

Let's drop the vaccine debate please. Guidelines for this thread are in the OP. -b

Time to stop testing asymptomatic triple-vaxxed athletes every day. PCR tests are so sensitive that they can pick up dead fragments of the virus in the nose - doesn't mean that they're infectious.

If anything, Bron must be elated right now because we all know that in a non COVID world, the Lakers are not even a top 5 team. This pandemic might be his last chance at a ring

This is actually not a vaccine debate. It is a health debate. COVID can cause significant symptoms to athletes. There are MMA fighters who went out for over year due to COVID complications. Even if this happens to only a couple of NBA players, it is definitely not something you gloss over. The vaccine prevents serious complications but vaccine or not, risking COVID complications is not smart.

How will the season pan out due to covid?

Post#316 » by Zvaart » Mon Dec 20, 2021 7:57 am

Taking into consideration the burst in covid cases, the omicron variant that is more contagious, my fear is the season cannot end in a regular manner. And not only due to the post-ponned game, i have this feeling for a while now

What do you think, what is the solution?
- a break to let the cases settle
- play without public again
- a new bubble

Or do you think is sustainable to play as they did till today?

no different than last year, people need to relax. There were more cancellations last year compared to now. Maybe slight reduction in crowds in NYC/LA but other than that nothing will change other than cancellations every now and then.

This tweet was before the season even started last year. Things are better this year.

There certainly seems to be a pretty significant uptick recently even while the vast majority are vaccinated, possibly due to Omicron. This looks like it could get bumpy. Even our coach (Vogel) was sidelined due to health & safety protocols.

Lakers are probably pushing to erase this season from record.
