Yes but in a good way. It’s good to have 2 6-4+ guys who can handle the ball, shoot, and defend multiple positions. The bad overlapping talents are two point guard size guys who can’t defend big guards. Pacers have the opposite of that now so I view it as a strength.

Well kinda, cause Brogdon can't defend anybody.

Sabonis is a really good player and he is only 25. Feels like people are overacting on this one.

I would have tried getting rid of Fox before shopping Hali

I mean, i get all the reactions, as I thought Kings shat the bed the moment I saw the trade, and I love Sabonis, but my takes are:

Kings probably tried to get Sabonis for Fox/Bagley/Picks, right? no way they didn't try this? Pacers getting Fox and his contract would limit so much their rebuild, right?

Sabonis is GREAT, can rebound, score, pass the ball, but can't defend as well as other centers. He has improved but the perfect match for him would be turner, right? A big who can protect the paint and shoot the 3. And if feels they didn't work that well together, so, how can you fix Sabonis weakness and build around him?

Hali has been playing so well recently, can shoot the ball, pass, defend at some level, and feels like he has so much upside, that would be dumb to trade him. It it feels like it is.

The trade is fair I believe, if Kings can get a consolidation move after this and actually compete. Pacers go into rebuild with a easy to build around young PG who can play off ball, A defensive center with range, Brogdon with time to heal(can he ever be healthy?).

Loved the movement

People are going to have to face the reality that there are plenty of young basketball players that in the coming years will be able to produce significantly for losing NBA teams as their primary lead guard similar to Haliburton and Anfernee Simons this season & Tyreek Evans years ago.

I agree its fair value wise. The difference is that while Pacer Fans can see the Pacers' future plans, the Kings' Fans are still scratching their heads at what the Kings are thinking.

I don't think so?

Sabonis is good yes, but he's gonna have the same issue he had on the Pacers, he's now paired with Holmes. None of them is a rim protector and the Kings are already bad defensively

And then if you add Fox, that is the worse shooting start unit on the entire league.

Trading Haliburton who was on a rookie contract for the next 3 or 4 seasons is just stupid, you're know commited to a Fox/Sabonis core.

He's the best player involved, and will likely be for the near future that's for sure.

I'm not confident Haliburton will be unanimously viewed as a better player than Sabonis come this time next year although it is likely he will, but I do know next year Sabonis will be what he is now with a contract starting to whittle down in it's second to last year on a mess of a team on the Kings and looking forward to walking for nothing in free agency.

Meanwhile Hali will be locked up long term for the Pacers and be getting many all-stars in his future in the East.

Absolutely horrible.

The Kings need a makeup trade for their Centers just to break even. Just horrible.

I like it for both teams honestly. A little more for SAC because they got the best player in the trade (Sabonis).

SAC needed balance and going forward with Fox/Sabonis is a good starting point. Not sure how IND didnt request Bagley back in the trade instead of Thompson though since he would be a good rebuild flier.

Still need to declutter that roster a bit though.

So like besides Harrison Barnes who's gonna be spacing the floor and hitting 3s for this team. I feel like Fox and Sabonis kinda get in each other's way a bit. Even in the short term I'm kinda baffled at the fit here.

You can all but guarantee they shopped both of them around. My guess is that the offers they were getting for Fox wasn't commensurate with the value they had in mind for him, so they went with Fox + "win now".

Could also be Vivek meddling with his GM's affairs again.

The worst part about this regardless of how anyone feels about Hali and his potential is the Kings should be gathering young controablle assests. Hali had like 6-7 more yrs of control minimum. With a cheap deal, this isn't even accounting for the lack of shooting/defense from a team that's trying to "win now" as this trade signals for the the Kings.

Sabonis at center is a defensive disaster but youre right that center is probably his best position.

Sabonis has the best defensive rating on the pacers of those who played any significant minutes tho. U might look into players that chase blocks and steals and think "wow he's a good defender", but good positional defense and reading the game gets underlooked more often than not.

People talking like he's Enes World Freedom or something.

They did. They were looking at the Simmons deal for a long time which would have included Fox but Philly wouldn't do it without them including Haliburton and a bunch of future first round picks as well. I really doubt there was any way to get Fox off the team without giving up a lot of future pieces, he hasn't played well this year and his contract is huge.

It's also important to realize the Kings have been out of the playoffs for the better part of two decades, they likely didn't want to salary dump Fox and start yet another rebuild around Haliburton that might not pay off for a good half decade or more, they're desperate to have some small taste of the playoffs.

Sothron wrote:People are really underselling how good Sabonis is. I am surprised Sac gave up on Haliburton who is good and on a rookie scale contract which is like platinum value though. Sabonis will make any team he's on a better team because of his ability to play and pass in the low or high post and he rebounds very well. He's not a shot blocker or a great three point shooter but everything else he checks off. It isn't his fault the Pacers record is as bad as it is.

This. It Sabonis were 34 years old or something I’d understand a lot of the outrage. What “direction” do people want the Kings to go in? That can’t all be shown in one trade. They got the best player in the deal and a young one at that. Haliburton has the chance to be an All star one day IF he continues to improve. Being 21 years old doesn’t guarantee that improvement
