How can a gun get into an airplane? The players go thru metal detectors and the luggage is screened

Is this true on private planes?

I haven't been on one since before 9/11.

I think it likely would violate league rules, team rules, and airport rules, even if the private plane were OK with it.

What if he bought it in Denver?

TSA screenings at private planes would actually surprise me.

Is there a waiting period for gun purchases in Colorado?

And if so, are private sales an exception?

Even without screenings if he broke airport rules regarding carrying a gun, the league is not going to like that look.
And like I said, he definitely broke league and team rules regardless.

Of course it is.

Moreover, this is not a private plane issue, but an airport issue. Everybody boarding a plane in airport X should abide by national airport laws/regulations. At least that's how it works here in Brazil.

The gun that Morant flashed in his video could not be his, it could be owned by another person (from the city of Denver) and he just got it and was "playing around", so in this scenario there wasn't anything the metal detector could have detected as there wasn't any gun in the luggage.

Seems like this will be investigated in the coming days. The smoke has just started to appear, from my point of view.

There’s no TSA screening on private planes. You don’t even go through a terminal. You go through a gate at a private airport service and drive right to your plane.
When someone says, "to make a long story short", it's usually too late.

I don't know why the thread title and common phrasing is "officially suspend." He is not suspended--meaning he is still getting paid. He is merely "away," the minimal action the team could take without ruffling feathers while still appearing to care, and also providing cover while his team crafts the redemption/recovery narrative. I imagine coaching this rockhead to appear contrite in an interview is going to take some work.

I'm sure they're hoping the NBA suspension will include time served.

From what I've seen in Europe the high level pro soccer teams don't go through security controls. They essentially have a separate entry/exit. Otherwise fans would just wait on them inside the airport. And there's no reason to screen the players' luggage, if everything is private. All of those laws and rules are just for commercial flights. Was the same thing during covid when people on private flights weren't screened for proof of whatever upon landing.

That said, the NBA can still impose specific rules on the teams.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

Compare his actions to Arenas.
Who was worse?

Morant by far.
Give him the 50 piece for taking the gun on the plane, then investigate and see how much more there is.

Why are people stating this as a fact? Like it could be right, but there are way more simpler scenarios: It was some random guys gun at the club, it was part of crew, it was his gun but someone legally checked it in their bags (I think it is legal to store an unloaded gun but don't know state - I'm personally against gun ownership so never needed to look directly at the laws).

Obviously what he did is stupid, but it would be a whole another level if he brought a gun on a team plane. with the way the grizz have been handling it, that may be right but why are people stating it as fact?

Bringing guns into the locker room and challenging your teammate to a gun fight is worse than anything that we know Ja has done.

I think you're right. The part that may raise Morant's offense to the same level is that, partly because of the Arenas behavior, the CBA specifically forbids Morant from taking a gun on the team plane (iiuc).

IOW, he should've known better which makes it just as bad.

Private sales are an exception. It really depends on exactly where he was at and what the establishment had posted if he broke laws.

Washington DC and Baltimore have had strict fun laws for decades, Arenas broke several laws and should have known better.

This isn't about state laws. The CBA is clear. Guns on team plane - 50 game suspension. 0 tolerance.

Ask the Pacers how they felt when Ja pointed his piece at them

Heh, funny typo.

I hear you and was kinda agreeing with you. I still think this is worse or just as bad tho.
