They're not on his timeline? Castle is like a year younger and Harper is only two. Wemby is 21  they'll be fine

Wemby is great right now, it's not about age

And Castle looks like an all-star in the near future. They also just traded for another All-Star PG in Fox. I think it is important for the Spurs to try and maintain as much roster flexibility as they can with rookie scale deals as long as they can. Cashing in Castle/Harper now for an older piece is not the move I would make. I would let them all grow organically. Tim Duncan was ready in 2003 but TP and Manu weren't, didn't stop them from winning multiple rings together. Castle and Harper are not raw developmental projects. They will be fine growing with Victor

WestGOAT wrote:Which shooters are we talking about? They have a promising crop of ball-dominant young guards, but that has lead to a logjam there. They are talented but will need a couple of seasons before they are actually impactful, and I don't see necessarily see the synergy there with Wemby.

They are not contenders in this state.

Vassell, Wemby himself, Barnes, Champaigne, Olynyk, even Fox in the last 5 years is a 36% spot up shooter from 3s - the fit between Fox and Castle is pretty weak, their shooting is suboptimal, and long term I don't see space for Fox to play there considering how great projection of Harper looks in my eyes, so it's odd - but their talent pool and depth is pretty decent already. Wemby generates such a great gravity as a roller / iso scorer / shooter that is unparalleled among big men historically, Mavs have one of the best rosters in the league to actually contain Wemby and they couldn't execute nothing, really.

What contender is and isn't is a bit semantics - I expect ~55W season and Spurs being super dangerous in the playoffs, and their long-term situation with assets is pretty decent. I just don't see a comparison to Cavs or Wolves with LeBron and KG, respectively, Castle and Harper have looked super promising so far. I agree Fox situation will be super odd though. But Wemby isn't even 22, Spurs are in no rush for now.

Has anyone thought to say that "they are concerned for the rest of the league"?

That would be a classic turn of phrase

Only concerns are his health and his teammates not being good enough.

I haven't seen anything like Wemby in the paint since Dwight Howard or Amare Stoudamire.

It's not normal how well he uses his long arms to create space in his shooting or dunking motion to avoid defenders. I haven't seen anything like that, how fluid the movement is. Hope Duncan stays close to him to keep his head straight(not like I'm worried about that, he seems really focused and dedicated, but Duncan's seemed always so focused and composed that should help wemby anyway)

Watching him dominate inside against Davis was really incredible. I think NBA teams are going to need to treat him like Jokic. Jokic also tears Davis apart. Better off using Davis as help defense and putting a stocky wing on him. I'd be interested to see how Caruso defends Wemby. Someone leaning in to his legs.

I am concerned that he had 29/11/9 blocks on Friday night and it still felt like he had a B- at best game.
His potential is truly endless.

Offensively Wembanyama can't carry a team, because he's not a playmaker, whereas Giannis/Jokic can carry a team to the championship.
Not saying they win on their own, as Jokic needs Murray, and Giannis needs spot-up shooters, but they carry the offense even without scoring.
I'm not even sure if the Spurs will make the playoffs, given how packed the West is with high-IQ teams...

There is literally no point trying to get someone tall enough to contest his shot. The best hope is someone that can guard him far out and keep him as far away from the rim as possible, and hope his jumper isn’t hot that night.

I'm concerned that the Spurs haven't built a better team around this guy yet. He's ready to lead a playoff run now and not sure if they will have him at this level after his 8 years locked in as a Spur.

It might become another tragedy as we've seen before with Garnett and LeBron.

There seems like there is absolute no vision when building around Wemby. All the complementary pieces around him have so far shown they are in fact not complementary at all. :banghead:

I think Castle and Harper are good additions but young and not on Wemby's timeline.

they don't fit on what time during that 7 seasons club control over wembenyama? lmao

Could Shaq carry an offense? Or Wilt? Or Hakeem? Or Dirk?

Couple of these plays are only possible for Wembanyama. He just took AD from almost the half and walked him all the way to the rim for a poster.
