They should ask DeAndre Jordan to play in the Olympics again.

That’s a tough one. Really had to think about it a long time to come up with a decent option. Think it’s gotta be Bam Adebayo though. He has the defense that they need and should be substantially better with another year of seasoning. Other than him, all I can think of is Favors or Turner again.

I just made a post explaining the odds of what kind of dominance it takes to just have a 50-50 shot at winning an elimination tourney. The world hasn't "caught up" when Team USA even fielding their "A" team loses, but dream on.

You can make up your own reasons all you want. Poor USA players couldn't field their A Team...boo hoo, cry me a river. FACTS are that some players pulled out because they saw other players were out and didn't want to be associated with a team that loses. Most counties have players begging to represent their country on sports. That's your biggest issue.

With the knock out tournament style, which all of these tournaments come down too, every country faces the same obstacles, so why should we feel sorry for the USA. This is not the NBA, nor should it be. Every World cup style tournament in sports comes down to knock out games. Brazil loses to France in Football and they don't complain about how hard their qualifications were

Stop making excuses, I couldn't care less if you sent a G League team to the world cup, we can only beat a team that is brave enough to turn up and now the records show that you will come 7th or 8th.

Or why don't you just STFU and be grateful we bothered to send players over at all?

The fact US and Canadian players are not begging to go earn millions for FIBA over in China says more about the value and prestige of your tourney than it does about their "braveness", "patriotism", "loyalty", or whatever BS you care to associate with participating in your inconsequential little tourney.

Hit a sore point did I?? For all your country's patriotism, you'd think players would love representing the USA. It's not brave to play basketball at a World Cup, but it does show patriotism and pride. Brave is serving your country either in the Forces or emergency services.

It's so inconsequential that your on this board defending your country's poor showing and making excuses. When you get called out on it, all of a sudden no one cares

Don't send anyone, I couldn't care less. One less team to beat and one less group of fans making excuses

Patriotism can be a fine thing, as long as that is not used as an excuse to persecute others. Nothing wrong with loving/supporting/defending your country, but there are many examples of when it has been used as a banner to defend acts of hatred and racism as seen many times over under the USA's current administration. Unfortunately the work has been hijacked by the far right to defend being an ****

I am patriotic about Australia, but I'm also love multiculturalism and fully support our country's first peoples.

Providing free labor to FIBA in return for a chance to win a shiny medal has nothing to do with patriotism, and cheering for Cedi and Delly because they play for the Cavaliers is not anti-patriotic.

But hey, feel free to check my posting history before Team USA lost ... or maybe you should just be replying to someone your points might actually apply to?

Look Jon, I'm not trawling back through pages and pages of your posting history, I'm not that interested in you. I directly replied to YOUR comment, so it was to you. And yet you keep replying and arguing. Don't like it, stop replying to me.

I love how you have now turned this tournament into countries providing free labour, really clutching at straws. Ask the players who went if they cared, I'm damn sure they did.

Patriotism doesn't mean you can't cheer for other players?? where did I draw that conclusion? Fans cheering on have nothing to do with players representing a country. There are several players on Team USA that I hoped had good tournaments, as well as players on many other countries. I love good basketball and watch to see that, no matter what country is playing. I love watching Spain (maybe not tonight!) and Argentina play.

Keep turning my comments into something they are not to make yourself feel better.

AD is most obvious one for some size and talent.

Need a closer who can just generate offense when pressure is on.
Kawhi, KD, or Bron. But they are older and or have injury problems

Would curry or harden step up? Is Kyrie enough to be best guy?

Kawhi, KD, and Bron have to be the 3 least likely closer options for the US team. You have a guy with a seemingly permanent leg condition that won’t allow him to play a full season, a guy who’s likely to miss the entire season with an injury, and a multiple gold medal winner who’s about to be 35 years old. Be a little more realistic.

Dame Lillard would be an excellent closer. He’s been healthy and he’s never played in the Olympics before. Steph’s a little more of a long shot with his ankle issues, but he might try to win an Olympic gold too if the Warriors have an early playoff exit. Jimmy Butler has a gold from 2016, but could maybe be persuaded to come back if he was going to be the star of the team instead of a reserve this time around.

Find some Bigmen Allstars for that team as well,so that Gobert won't be guarded by Harrison Barnes again.

Most good C's are not American, mot great on D, old or too young

AD is the best choice ofc, but he may want to mostly play the 4 and some time at the 5

Bam?
Turner again (he was pretty bad)?
Deandre Ayton possibly if he gets better on D
Jarrett Allen?

Somewhat realistic/hopefulish lineup:

Lillard, Harden, Tatum, AD, Turner
Fox, Mitchell, Brown, Kuzma, Draymond
Smart, Plumlee (or someone else who won't play meaningful min)

Oladipo(if hes basically back to normal) would be cool, but I don't know if he pushes body this early
Need a better defensive guard/wing option than Harden or Tatum, but who even knows if Harden plays

im going to be starting work right at 6pm so im going to have to avoid spoilers for 9-10 hours ffs

I want to see delly with the 10pt 11 assist type of night and I want to watch it not knowing the outcome, but im the guy who knows what happened just by someone saying hello a certain way, its a superpower

like "don't say anything at all"

"ok I wont"

"ffs now I know what happened"

I must insist that everyone who im going to be contact with doesn't know what happened

Also, the US A-team can lose. Remember 2004? Ouch.

The US is brilliant at basketball, but not unbeatable. And I’m not sure if any of the defenders or apologists have realised this, but the rest of the world is closing the gap. No team at FIBAWC had the individual talent that the US showed up with, but other teams have been playing better basketball.

Technically, Spain was still the basketball world champions when they won the soccer world cup in 2010. (they would lose the title to the US a few months later).

Technically there was no "World Cup" of basketball before 2014.

FIBA renamed their World Championship tourney to try to steal some of the fame of the FIFA tourney, but then rescheduled it a year later so they wouldn't have to compete with it - choosing instead to lose players from their tournament who can't justify the additional load of playing in back to back years.

You claim you don´t give a **** about this 'lesser' Championship but frankly, you seem to be obsessed by it...May the rest of us enjoy the semis in peace? They have turned out to be even more interesting without US/Serbia!

Nothing wrong with patriotism, but how about playing too much professional basketball? The NBA players who go deep for FIBA medals get to go to training camp and then play a grueling 82-game NBA season and possible playoffs and then prepare for the Olympics in 2020. We'll have to see the effect next season and in the Olympics. The FIBA medals aren't worth it .

Yes, it will be a tough grind, but at least most of the US team won't have to worry about going deep in the playoffs or being at the Olympics
