Even without Kawhi, Sixers is by far the best spot for him.
And they’re also by far the best shot to get Kawhi, if Ainge doesn’t want to sell the farm to get him.
Not everyone feels the need to stack the deck to Durant-ian levels in order to be competitive for a champion. Last year, he had a clown car full of has-beens and never weres, and if you replaced JR Smith with a reasonably competent starting NBA wing, they could have been right in that series with Golden State. Even if they just bring back the crew from last year, LeBron already has a better supporting cast in LA than he had in Cleveland, and you know the Lakers will end up getting at least one big player alongside LeBron. If they can't get Kawhi, then they'll sign Boogie Cousins or Clint Capela. And maybe they'll flip Lonzo for Kemba Walker. Like do you really think Kemba/Ingram/Bron/Randle/Boogie bringing Kuzma off the bench couldn't compete with Golden State or Houston? That sounds like a hell of a team to me.
