Giannis finished seventh in ROY! it's not always how you start. It's how you develop.

As long as you see a guy that is playing the right way, that shows the right skillset, that shows that they are coachable, etc., then you have a good chance of having a guy that is going to be a long-term net-positive player in the league.

For those interested, MCW won ROY in Giannis' rookie year. Top 5 were: -

1. MCW
2. Oladipo
3. Trey Burke
4. Mason Plumlee
5. Tim Hardaway

This was a super terrible draft tho. The 2 best players were selected 15th and 27th

Cade moves to #1 on the NBA rookie ladder. Mobley #2, Barnes #3, Giddey #4, Franz #5

I assume they'll make Cade the rookie of the month since they moved him to #1 on the ladder.

Giddey being ahead of Franz is absolutely wild to me. Based on what???

He's also been clearly better than Barnes for like 75% of the season now but I know first impressions get a choke hold on perception

I was thinking the same thing. Franz is way more efficient and played in every game.

S/o to Orlando for having a nice draft. Getting Wagner & Suggs is solid, especially Wagner. He might be the best White wing player in a few years, not trying to race bait or anything, trust me....

Giddey gets rookie of the month in the West, 3/3. Which just highlights that most of the best young talent in the draft went East.

Got a kick out of the other nominations:
Green (who was objectively bad most of the month, the other rookie 2 guard on his team deserved this spot more than him)
Herb Jones (solid player, just quite unexciting)

How exactly has Giddey been better than Barnes? Would love to hear your reasoning behind that.

I do agree that Giddey being ahead of Franz is plain wrong. But as another poster pointed out it's probably because he's won 3 ROTM awards in the weak west.

This thread also highlights that no one is actually watching him. He's been excellent in a pretty tough situation.

13.3/8.6/6.1 for the month but apparently it's only because its a weak rookie class in the West.

No one's saying he's not good, he just has absolutely no competition right now

Giddey over Wagner invalidates any rookie ladder in my eyes.

The Barnes/Wagner discussion at 3 is far more interesting. I'd say Wagner has been the more consistent player, while Barnes had the higher peak early in the season. Both have been better than Giddey.

Maybe I just don't understand these rankings. Is it who's hottest week to week? If so, Wagner has averaged 21.0 ppg, 2.7 rpg, and 4.0 apg since the last Rookie ladder released and you could argue he's second behind Cade. Is it season-long? Because in that case, I'd say he's a top 4 lock and arguably 2nd or 3rd.

Is it who you would rather have long-term? Even so, I can't see many NBA GM's selecting Giddey over Franz in a redraft considering his halfcourt limitations and what Franz has shown as a creator/playmaker/defender at his size.

barnes early season role has changed once the raptors started getting healthy. he won't have the same opportunities as the other rookies to put up the raw #'s going forward.

I think last season the worst teams were in the Eastern Conference. So I guess it make sense.

Top 10 picks in the west were :
Green - started the month hot ended it very much not
Kuminga - not enough minutes

I just meant that since the teams were bad in the East the young talents got a lot more opportunities. 5 teams in the East got to pick 6 lottery players (Orlando drafted twice).
