It's crazy how many rules people are trying to invent. The MVP is either the best player on the best team or the best player in general as long as their team is competitive enough. All these super niche rules like "a 6'5 player never started 0-2 and still ended up winning MVP" are way too circumstantial and not indicative of the future.

It's probably because of betting that people are trying to outgame the system and only end up talking themselves out of the actual contenders.

I ain’t inventing a rule...

I ask you directly ..if Mitchell is the best player in the league THIS year, do YOU think Mitchell will win if Luka and Giannis keep up what they are doing right now?

That question makes no sense. Mitchell isn't the best player this year but if he was it wouldn't matter what anyone else does.

I disagree - if Mitchell has a slightly or marginally better year than Luka or Giannis- Mitchell not winning the mvp. This is Lukas year unless someone else proven like Giannis or another “super star” like curry or Ja has a better year.

Narratives matter in a subjective opinion poll like MVP.

Another example- Luka and Booker could have nearly an equal year but if it’s close, the tie goes to Luka because of game 7 last year between these two.

To act like narrative doesn’t matter in mvp is naive even for RealGM

You asked if Mitchell is the best player in the league, you didn't say slightly better or marginally better year. Given both players are head and shoulders above Mitchell as a player, I'm not sure why you're asking a hypothetical that has zero chance of occurance in order to make a point? It doesn't make one.

Luka was my preseason pick, he remains my pick. So far I’d go

1. Luka
2. Giannis
3. Mitchell
4. SGA
5. Booker
6. Ja
7. Tatum
8. Dame
9. Siakam
10. KD

A couple of these teams sit around .500 or less, but SGA, KD, Siakam have been so damn good, they still get on the list.

This is going to be a fun contest for MVP.

Luka is improving. He's finally starting to see what real fitness can do for you.
Thank you Nico!

I’m curious on volume. Because SGA was 30% above 2nd place Ja on driving attempts a game or two ago. Nothing looks out of place overall though, those are the best rim attackers in the game right now. It is random as hell to see Sengun up there though.

Yeah SGA is still far and away leads the league in drives. It's not even close.

On that note, Luka's 3rd on drives and shooting like 70% bit more importantly he's top 5 on post ups and scoring very well from there.

I said in his rookie year Luka would go down as top 10-15 all time. I’m moving it up to top 5.

Giannis is on another planet defensively as Luka while also having the same impact offensively. Giannis gets his 3rd MVP this season.

According to RAPTOR his offensive impact isn't great as Luka's

Giannis is winning and playing as nearly as good on offense and is worlds ahead defensively. I agree right now it’s Giannis’s to lose if it’s just about play and I don’t think anyone thinks Luka is as good as a overall player as Giannis but if it’s close I think it Lukas turn to win mvp.

Too many, especially here, only look at offensive numbers and get mesmerized. Luka is a great scorer though. Offensive player of the year perhaps.

From a pure offensive point of view Luka's combination of efficient scoring and play making puts him above Giannis offensively, though Giannis is still the best 2 way player in the game and it's not close.

Not the same impact offensively. Luka's offense works in the playoffs, Giannis is much easier to slow down in that setting. Luka is also a WAY better playmaker and closer. Giannis is the superior two way, and defender though.

Luka is Swiss cheese on defense. He needs to play both ends before I’d consider him an MVP.
