From all accounts, EVERYONE wants to play with Wemby. The better question would be, what available marquee guy wouldn't want to sign with SA and play with Wemby? Fox doesn't get you to championships imo. I say this as someone who was very high on Fox in college and argued tirelessly for the Lakers to draft him over Ball. I just think the Spurs will have better opportunities in the future. Whether that's Luka or someone else.

It's also NOT because Fox is a bad player and he'd be a good fit most likely. It's the years/$$ he wants that makes it impossible for SAS to fill out the rest of the roster and be a contender. A lot of people are missing this part.

Plus if we were to sign him as UFA he'd get the least amount of money vs. the trade being done now based on eligibility criteria of whichever means he was acquired. So that would benefit us more than Fox. It definitely benefits Fox more to get to the Spurs now to be eligible for a higher extension. And benefits Klutch to get closer to Wemby. Never ever forget that. Like I'd be far more comfortable getting Fox now if he were with another agency. I don't want them anywhere near Wemby. But he has a good strong group around him, endorsements galore, doesn't need any clout. Wemby IS the clout. This is an agency trying hard to tie itself to the next generational player.

Exactly. And I've not been following the Spurs during this Wemby era btw. I've just looked at the guaranteed contacts for when Fox is coming off and needs extending. 26/27 you guys are primed with open cap space to sign and build around a generational talent, and I bet he'll stay the course with you as well, but the roster needs filling out then. The only ones guaranteed are on cheap contacts and young so very tradable or if they make a jump keep them. Fox extension will eat up a massive amount of the cap and wont move the needle at all for 26/27.

This guy gets a lot of flack on X for his reporting so take it with a grain of salt. Anyway, at the end of the day, either it's done or not:

This is also a a terrible trade for the Spurs, just not as crazy as including Castle. Again, he’s not worth the money he’s demanding in 2 years and he’s a terrible fit with Wemby. Why you wanna give up any first round picks for this guy? You wanna go all in for a rental or to extend a declining asset when your future GOAT candidate just turned 21? Why???!

Is he? Because he even misspelled De'Aaron Fox's name.

I'm waiting for the Spurs to get Fox so the Magic can try to trade for Monk, Huerter, or Lyles, or maybe all of them. Hurry up Spurs!

I think the first guy is speculating but it's good speculation. The deal makes too much sense not to happen if Fox is pushing for it. I'm sure with the new CBA that the devil is in the details.

Unbelievable that the Kings would have had both Fox and Haliburton at one point and could end up with neither.

I'm seeing increasing reports from people I've come to trust, for what it's worth. But as Don said in the second tweet, it's not done until it's done.

Still, there's enough 'there' out there already, 4 team trade, complicated, may yet have other permutations if other teams want in.

But the gist is the framework is there... That's how I understand it, even if it may change. Or even fall apart. Feels like we're closer to it happening now than in the summer or UFA of '26.

It's going to fall apart because Miami is going to explain to Fox that Ware is the real Wemby

I will say there is a lot of smoke, so I wouldn't be surprised, but I also just don't trust Harris/Dusty

But it does make sense, knowing that PHX wants Butler and Miami is going to trade him. Or maybe it involves BKN and UTA with Spurs sending them assets so SAC gets the players they want (Collins/Johnson)

If Spurs make this deal while keeping Castle + the ATL picks, I'll be ecstatic 8-)

The more convoluted the trade is, the worse it will be for the Spurs in my opinion.

The Spurs need a high volume high percentage shooter and hope that if they get Fox, they can do it without Castle, and I am not even a Castle fan.

Yeah the Castle Atl picks are for like Luka/Shai/Jokic level availability dangling. Otherwise, I'd be pissed if we moved any of them in this deal.
