Naw. It had to do with a bad situation where there was a massive divide between young guys and Al vs vets like Morris and Kyrie. Im not going to re-litigate last year, but IT had nothing to do with it —thats just a tired trope by people reaching for criticism of the Celtics.

Maybe but Horford passing on Cs has a lot to do with it. I can see more FAs passing on Cs as long as Ainge is the GM.

No. I don't think Horford passed on the Celtics due to the treatment of Thomas. I think players around the league saw them allow IT to play on a bad hip after his Sister died, with no intention to re-sign him, and lost trust in the FO. They know the FO feels no obligation to them, so they're showing no obligation back. He left for the money, but the secrecy and lack obligation to communicate his intentions probably comes directly from the incident.

IT chose to play on the hip because he wanted the big contract. If the Celtics had benched him they would have been criticized for trying to lower his market value.

Haters gnnna hate. It's ok to hate the Celtics but please get your facts straight when you do, and try watching the team play once in awhile.

He was also misdiagnosed, which is definitely a fault of the team. However, they cleaned house and fired everyone after that to rectify the error.

It is hilarious cause IT still loves Boston and Boston still loves IT, but we're trynna make it as if there is bad blood and Danny somehow played IT, although every report that came out said that Danny was pretty straight forward with IT.

Oh, this thread is aging like fine wine, btw.
Good assessment:

The guy is an excellent big defender and rim protector. They couldn't have found a use for that, at least situationally?

I believe they were hustling up last minute capspace so they could keep Horford's Caphold and still obtain Kemba. I believe they could have signed Kemba outright, without the Rozier sign and trade, if they renounced Horford's Bird Rights. Once they cleared Baynes and did the sign-and-trade, they could get both players. But Horford screwed them and left anyway.

Considering how they treated his teammate IT and how they wanted to underpay him, why would he be loyal?

Wondering what you would have said if they paid IT what he was asking. Would it be something like "wow Ainge again over paying for a PG without any defense".

Dude WANTED to play. Maybe the doctors said he shouldn't but they let him just because he freaking wanted to lol. He stated this offseason he would even be interested to sign a contract in Boston so please try again.

They eventually did that anyway, and Kemba isn't as good at shooting as 2016-17 Isaiah Thomas.

Celtics low key had an amazing draft.

Edwards
Williams
Waters
Fall

All 4 of them look great. Haven't seen much from Langford yet and he got hurt yesterday.

Uhm you should compare him to 19-20 Isaiah since that's when Kemba got paid.

And once again, IT publicy said he'd sign in Boston if they wanted him. So you would want a GM who would have paid IT the max just for following reasons: because IT wanted to, because he played when his sister died. I can the biggest loyal player ever and do everything but do I deserve to never get traded/get paid the max, just because of that? This is the NBA man, everyone's doing what's best for theirselves. The teams, the players, everyone.

Every rebuild is different. The goal is to acquire stars. Do you need help with who the star players were on those teams?
You don't get it! They drafted and developed their players. They did not play the fool and trade away their talent and draft picks for the first so called stars to become available. Danny chooses the short cut way. It worked one time for couple seasons. Maybe in his old age he will smarten up?

It's called preseason. And amazing draft is when you draft a star, not role player who fit with current roster in limited role in limited minutes

I think 'low key' might not mean the 'draft a star'

The dialogue about "acquiring stars" is just a meaningless cliche. The Warriors didn't acquire stars. They grew them, and had a championship under their belts before a carpetbagging Durant showed up. And winning in the NBA isn't about stars, really. Lot's of teams have stars. Houston has had stars up the wazoo with nothing to show for it. Winning championships is about playing effective team defense. "Stars" are just a product of the NBA's marketing machinery.

Ainge is trying to do the same thing as the Warriors. He may or may not succeed with Tatum and Brown. Stay tuned.

Ainge planned to trade Tatum and Brown for davis, with bunch of draft picks. He was all in on getting stars. Brown might be traded anyway.

He would have traded Tatum for four years of AD. Who wouldn't? But he was not trading Tatum for a one-year rental. And Brown was never in the AD discussion.

But that's water over the dam. Right now the Celtics are built around Tatum, Brown and Smart, along with the two veterans, Hayward and Kemba Walker.

Tatum and Brown are both excellent defenders. They're not just scorers. That's what differentiates them from many other young players drafted in the lat few years.

He was willing to take that risk, and you fans were all for it. You were saying that there is a bigger chance for AD to stay, than for Tatum to develop into that caliber of player. Everybody was saying that if Kyire stays, AD is a Celtic for sure. Not just the fans, but the reporters like Woj, Mannix and others.

You need to overpay if you want to contend.
You don't need too if you're aiming at 3rd seed or something.

Anyways ... Harris is 4 years younger or so. His contract will still be moveable in a couple of years.
Bad comparison it seems

Ainge obviously wasn't willing to take the risk. Otherwise Tatum would be a Pelican. Tatum plus the Memphis pick is a better deal by itself than what NO got from the Lakers. What good are a bunch of picks in the mid 20s?

And no, the fans weren't all for it. I wasn't, and neither were many others. The problem is, no one enjoys playing with Kyrie, who is a selfish player and a self-absorbed individual (from all accounts). AD would not have enjoyed playing with him any more than Tatum and Brown did.

I keep telling this to Nets fans, but they won't believe me. They'll understand by mid-January.
