As someone posted above, the Pacers make some sense with Brogdon going to Brooklyn and Westbrook to Indiana (who will buy him out), but the value still isn't right for the Nets or Pacers... which brings in another team or two. Can see it becoming a pretty big trade.

Charlotte was rumored to ship the 13 or the 15 to get rid of Hayward for an expiring.

Hayward to BK
THT to BK
2027 LAL 1st to BK
'23 Charlotte 1st to BK or Mark Williams

Westbrook to CHA

Irving opt in and trade to LAL immediately extended

I want to see the Westbrook/Kyrie backcourt. There is huge potential for the Lakers to self-implode.

I have to believe Westbrook gets bought out / waived.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

You are better off keeping Westbrook instead of waiving him. If a buyout or waiving him were an option...he would be gone by now. Instead the Lakers are operating with Westbrook being part of their plans for next season.

I have never seen such a high profile case where both sides seemingly have no leverage whatsoever.

If the Nets go the full re-tool route (ie: Durant is the next one out the door), turning a toxic asset like Kyrie into the Westbrook expiring and draft capital isn't the end of the world.

Swap rights on PHIL's 2023 1st with the lesser or LAL/New Orleans isn't meaningless. Throw in an unprotected 2027 1st and that's at least something.

Can you flip the Westbrook expiring, Philly 2023 1st and LAL 2027 1st for a couple of win now pieces that complement Durant/Simmons? Maybe a 3 team package that sends Gordon Hayward to Indiana, Terry Rozier and Malcolm Brogdon to Brooklyn and Westbrook to Charlotte makes some sense. Maybe Myles Turner is added to the package with draft capital going to IND.

Rozier/Brogdon/Durant/Simmons/Turner
Curry/Brown/Harris

I kind of like this team.

It means someone is playing with fire, which is most likely Irving since he has so much more to lose.

Would obviously hurt the Nets since it most likely means a Durant trade, but I think they're fine just getting Kyrie away from the team at this point. They can still get a hull for Durant even if he does decide to move on.

So weird. There's no such thing as 'Status quo' for this team. Kyrie only played half of the games. You had Harden instead of Simmons. This year will be completely different. It's not 'status quo'. Seem like they just don't like Kyrie and want him off their team. And understandably so.

What does Kyrie Irving provide for the nets?

Think about it.

Irving doesn’t play
Irving undermines management
Irving costs a ton of money

I have never seen a more entitled athlete in my life. He thinks he deserves $50M a year because he is great at basketball…but he is unwilling to perform .

It’s like paying Mozart to play the piano for you, but he actually never comes out of his castle to play the piano.

Leverage? The nets have decided that paying kyrie to not play is worse than losing kyrie. Lol.

But does Kyrie have the most to lose? Money - yes. Dude could get left outside in the rain and have to accept $30M less to play OR opt in and let whatever happens happen.

BK losing Kyrie seems like a fast track to losing KD. Which after all the picks and young players you gave up to build this roster, would be a major setback.

I could tell Sean Marks wasn't f'n around in that end-of-season presser, and that this would be the result.

Someone on the trade board had a good proposal:

Lakers - Kyrie
Nets - Brogdon, Turner
Pacers - Westbrook (bought out), 27 + 29 FRP via lakers, next available nets pick

Lakers get Kyrie, Nets reload around KD and Simmons, Pacers get 3 unprotected FRPs for non-allstar players.

Insane.

Like I said Lakers are going to get Irving for nothing.

This is why the NBA sucks sometimes. I honestly can't wait for LeBron to retire

Kyrie is a headcase, and to be honest if the owners can blacklist him to sign with any team, it would do wonders to warn the other NBA players about the consequences of being an entitled, selfish diva.

It does suck but I really don't believe if this happens that the lakers become the favorite to win. Lebron is older and both AD and Kyrie are still made of glass.

Definitely fair points especially with AD and Irving. It's just the whole principle of it where there's just certain teams that seemingly get guys for free all the time.

This will be pretty devastating to Brooklyn if this happens but I guess this is what happens when franchises get in bed with Irving.

Kyrie would be an idiot to opt out of $36 million just to chase $6 million, and not get a max level deal ever again. #FlatEarthersArentSmart
