He was 20, coming off an 18-10-2 rookie season, ROY. A big who can rebound, shoot, offer decent rim protection, and has room to grow. If you're picking a player to "start a franchise with" you're going to go with someone young, and there was really no one else that fit the bill. Embiid hadn't played a game yet, Giannis was coming off a 17 and 8 season and no one was predicting an MVP future for him, AD had injury concerns. Everyone was high on KAT at the time.
