Eh as long as that’s 44 games in the regular season and then 16 games in the playoffs, then that’s worth it for the Thunder.

Again i emphasize, this deal was made because;
Caruso can be an annoyance to Edwards, Luka/Kyrie and Murray. Nevermind the other weaker Western teams, OKC are better against those teams.

Wow.

That’s robbery from OKC given Giddeys off court issues too.

Great fit for them. They just got significantly better without touching the ‘war chest’.

It's a win for both teams. Giddey is 21, and he already has the most triple double in the league when we don't mention that guy from the Mavs or the triple D goat Westbrook (oh yea that guy from Denver is also pretty good too). When the ball is in his hands, he's averaging 19/7/7 while shooting 54% TS 60%. He improved his 3 pt% by 10% this year, and is only going to get better. You have to factor in him being 6'8, so the short PGs he's going up against can't really guard him.

I feel as if Caruso is just a short term rental while the Bulls got a future all star (his ceiling is 22/9/9 in my opinion). There's a reason why the Bulls didn't ask for more even though Caruso is one of the most coveted players in the league. They know his true worth. They saw what Lonzo can do, and they know what they need to be in the mix.

The Bulls are going to be a huge surprise this season, and with a weak East beyond the Celtics, Bucks, Knicks, and 76ers, I think they can compete for the 5-8 slots, yes, even giving Indiana and Magic a run for their money. They're a really good team; they're just missing a PG.

slick_watts wrote:i won't say it's impossible. but players who are as bad at the things josh giddey is bad at in their first three seasons typically don't become decent at them even when they are young. giddey's low FTr, mediocre defense and bad finishing are results of things he can't really control- his poor athleticism, explosiveness and short arms. even if he does become a serviceable 3pt shooter, it probably won't be off the dribble, and without that he's just not putting much pressure on defenses as a primary ball handler.

chicago's offense will be bad, and josh giddey can probably put up numbers on a bad offense where the options next to him aren't top ten isolation handlers like in okc. but i don't see a really solid path that results in giddey being a primary handler on a /good/ offense, because all the same problems that happened in okc will manifest once the talent around him improves again.

In addition, there isn’t talent there now to take advantage of his passing. They are really weak in the shooting dept and just made it worse. They don’t have guys who regularly cut. They just flipped a guy who was there to mask their weak defenders for….a weak defender.

Though I’ve been highly critical of him for not going for the Finals and competing for a title this year, Presti is one of the best FO guys in the business.

One thing I haven’t seen in this evaluation-

One of the best FO guys in the league just made a trade with one of the worst…

The guy who traded a young former #7, and two lottery picks for Nikola Vucebrick. Then fell for the sunk cost fallacy resigning Vucebrick.

The guy who built a roster that played Javonte Green at the 4. Derrick Jones Jr at the 4 and the 5…or didn’t play him at all. Then didn’t think he was worth resigning for peanuts despite being productive in his (unfairly) limited minutes.

Took Patrick “Sleepy” Williams over Tyrese Haliburton (many Chicago fans wanted him).

A guy who ran back the same crew over and over and over again despite it being immediately obvious it didn’t work without Lonzo.

Arturas traded for Giddey. Presti traded for Caruso. That’s telling.

The last time Presti sent a player to Chicago (not AK regime though), it was Cam Payne.

And until they get size and rebounding around Chet in the frontcourt they’re losing in the playoffs. Another two moves are needed.

It’s practically Day 1 of the offseason. You need to calm down. They are not done dealing.

The Giddey hate on here is actually pretty tame. Unlike Thunder fans, at least realgmers know what they are talking about and their hate is understandable (lack of knowledge). Arguing with a Thunder fan is like arguing with a brick wall, actually, I take that back, arguing with a brick wall is at least constructive because it doesn't talk back. Thunder fans will come up with the dumbest reasons as to why they hate Giddey. One of them even said he's too much of a pretty boy to be a real star.

Note* I'm a Thunder fan so I'm not really hating.

Saw similar takes outside of realgm. Everyone is clowning on the Bulls because they all have Giddey as bad by their evaluation.

Giddey has potential. His passing acumen is extremely rare, and he's got good positional size if you're using him in the backcourt (OKC used him more like a 3/4 so he never had a size advantage). His warts are super obvious and it's TBD if he can improve on some of them.

I don't think this trade looks amazing for Chicago today but Giddey could change the narrative pretty quickly by having a big season.

1. When Shai was out, he was averaging 19/7/7.

2. I meant from 2021-2022 to 2022-2023.

He's improved every year.

Note* I don't know much about Basketball, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. Thanks for educating me.

For anyone who believes the Bulls got equal value in this trade, watch this video:

It's a good trade for both teams.

The Thunder are ready to compete and Caruso is a good role player who fits their team.

The Bulls are ready to rebuild and they get a young player who still has potential.

I'm seeing posters say the Bulls could have gotten more for Caruso. That's nonsense. He's an injury-prone, 30 year-old role player. He didn't have much value.

fit wise its a no brainer

I like Giddey but he has all the makings of a guy who needs the ball in his hands to be effective. Not happening with all that offensive firepower they have with SGA, Chet, and Jalen Williams.

Caruso is a 41% 3 point shooter a phenomenal defender.

Yeah I don't like having Caruso Dort and SGA. That's too small for perimeter defense. I want a proper physical 6'7" SF who can at least match up with Kawhi or PG and the likes. Otherwise size becomes a problem for OKC both on the inside and out the outside. They are SKINNY and small as is.

It's not ideal but it can work against most matchups.

Im sure SGA will see time at the SG/SF and Williams will see time at the SF/PF. I think Chet should see some time at the 4 and OKC gets some size at the 5. Hartenstein would be perfect for them. Capela if Atlanta wants to move on and shake the team up. They are just too small.

I don't even like Capela for them. He will get tossed like a ragdoll by Towns or Jokic. Chet has to be 4 and they need to get a big guy at 5. Of course when they do get that big everyone will hate them LOL.

Towns scores well against Capela on awful efficiency.. Capela matches up with him really well

Bulls fan here-love Caruso and OKC will enjoy him. Great player and awesome teammate/crowd favorite. They still need a 4 man (Lauri a great fit) but a good get for them

For the Bulls, I like Giddey but wish they would have received a 1st round pick as well. Maybe Bulls could have sent the Port 1st back to OKC, and got the Miami or Utah pick? At least a few 2nds would have helped-but hopefully this is the first move of many for us, and we tank 2025

Yeah. I mean…Giddey gonna be a primary guy someone builds their team around?

Capping your ceiling real quick there.

They made a bad shooting team even worse.

They don’t have the personnel to take advantage of Giddey’s skills.

The Bulls have a bunch of weak defenders, and just subtracted their best defender and added another weak defender.

Just
