I disagree with this. Just my opinion. I believe all the momentum to stop bigotry, racial profiling, social injustice And completely change a broken system would be benefited by having athletes, especially nba players voicing there opinions on a worldwide public platform and I don’t think the nba would stop them (nor should Adam silver or the nba).

I think it would be amazing to show the world that the Nba stands in solidarity with protestors and black lives matter. The nba has very intelligent players that need to be heard- seeing someone with so much power like lebron James on a nightly basis voicing his opinion or taking a knee would be a constant reminder to how far America needs to go.

There are several people in real life situations like working 2 jobs full time to make ends meet that are out on the front lines of the protests and still have to work and they don’t have nearly the platform or influence of an nba player/celebrity sadly.

Sadly we have so far to go as a society to make this work and inspire real change - I don’t think having an nba season would set that back or make players come across as not caring- use your platform, Speak your message, tell the world.

You ever hear of the Colosseum and do you know what it's true purpose was? There is a solid reason not to play.

Why even restart. It's going to be a gong show.

Yeah bro NBA players are enslaved and forced to fight to the death, it's literally exactly the same as the Colosseum.

I miss sports big time. For me it seems too big of a delay in the season to get back into it.
Playing in a bubble takes away the fun of having your team to cheer for.
The players are taking a risk to play health wise. I think fairly minor risk considering the overall age demographic, health and medical support they receive. Still a risk.
The financial impact could be huge for years to come if they don’t play.
It could cause long term ramifications that they don’t see now.
Money vs health.

Dont want to play because of Corona fear? I get that. Dont want to play because you feel like social/political activism is more important? Cool do your thing.

When it comes to not wanting to play because you might be viewed as just entertainers for the country. Ya dont care to hear this point of view. Your job is literally being an entertainer.

Still think there is a good chunk of these guys who are questioning playing because of the entire situation of the "bubble". Not because of optics or anything like that. But because they're filthy rich millionaires in their 20s and early 30s who want to go out and have fun (we all know what falls under this haha). Being locked up in a hotel room for 2.5 months probably doesnt sound appealing at all to many of these younger guys. But instead of saying that they're coming up with more "mature" reasons to say publicly.

Haha
Players making millions to play a sport that is relatively safe under normal conditions. Even with COVID - what is the actual risk they are taking?
Young, generally healthy and have best medical support. I am sure if some of them had a true medical concern it would be addressed.
Seems like the issue is they want to be able to go about their own business outside the”bubble”.
The NBA compared to any other league globally has provided the platform to the players to address social concerns.
For the mental well being of a lot of people could be great.
Again if players say no. I don’t begrudge them at the end they would be taking the financial hit of that choice. That’s theirs to make.

When do you play, because coronavirus isn't going away. Nearly everyone will eventually get it, just try to build your immune system.

There's going to be a major injury to some star player, and people are going to say they shouldn't have played. Can see it now.

Yeah and no major injuries happened last year in the playoffs.

My opinion's about as valuable as Kyrie's in this situation. Neither of us will be in the bubble playing basketball.

The wording of this headline is already spun to put the onus on players who don't want to play. I'm listening to Windhorst's pod before this news broke, and he's talking about how execs are surprised the NBPA agreed to this without reading the details of the protocol. It's becoming increasingly clear, at least from our vantage point, that a bunch of active NBPA members got together and approved this without hearing everyone out. There might be a few people getting "cold feet" reading the details of the full proposal, but I think the truth is there are players who were just never consulted and feel frustrated with it being approved prematurely.

They already said if players don't want to play they don't have to. So I don't get trying to ruin it for players who do want to play. If you don't want to play, don't. Problem solved. And I especially don't get it coming from an injured player who wouldn't be playing anyway.

The question then becomes what percentage of players want to play according to this proposal, formally voted on, not coming out of a few Zoom calls with superstars that are amplified by league sources to keep advertisers warm.

I don’t blame them if they’re worried about playing. I’m very thankful I’m in no leadership position to make this type of call, you’ll be criticized no matter what direction you go and it won’t be clear if you made the right move for some time.
