ESPN is riding Wemby extra hard....everytime I go on their NBA page there's a headlining article for him

Segun/Wemby is an insane starting frontcourt if you ask me, especially if Wemby can avoid injuries and bulk up over time.
I think ideally you'd want to pair Wemby with someone with an outside shot. Same with Sengun probably, though I suppose Wembanyama could space the court for him lol. I could be wrong.
Yeah I agree. That’s why I think Cade and SGA would be the best with Wemby, playing pick n’ pop 30 feet from the basket. And I think the Pistons and OKC would be actually capable with Wemby, while Houston (outside of Sengun) just have a bunch of young dunkers who play zero D..wasting precious years off Wemby’s first few years
Either way, if the Pelicans somehow luck into get Wemby. We’re looking at McCollum and Ingram spacing the court with a Zion and Wemby, frontcourt..which is absolutely nasty imo
Also, not sure how Paolo and Wemby would work out, but it’s amazing on paper

But he came back nicely as usual.
On the itw after the game he said he was hoping to play the WC next year. Yeah, we all know that it wont happen (unfortunately for us).

Am I the only one who thinks that Wembanyama will succeed in the NBA if he can stay healthy, but he's being overhyped currently?

I agree, Wemby is the best prospect since LeBron. He is a slam dunk for the #1 Pick. Though part of me thinks he will shockingly not go #1...

I was on the might be overhyped train last year. But this season he has erased any doubt in my mind that he is an all time great, barring injuries. He has Gobert like interior defense with prime Porzingis offensive skills and that's underselling him still.

Admittedly, I've only seen clips of Wemby, haven't seen a full game. He's very impressive but I feel like he'll have a harder time getting to his spots in the NBA. I still think he's going to be an All-Star/All-NBA level talent, I'm just not sure if I want to slap the "generational talent" label on him yet. But again, I haven't watched full games, just going off of what I've seen.

I don't actually know this, just a suspicion, but I wonder if American fans kinda confuse basketball rookies and football rookies in their minds a little bit? Because I've heard in NFL great rookies often come in and actually help their teams win playoffs and even titles straight away. Problem is in the NBA this never happens, bad teams that draft a super talent and then try to build around him don't win a title until the guy is like 27. Lebron, Giannis, MJ, Dirk etc etc they're all the same like that. In the NBA only time young guys do anything in the playoffs is when they go to teams that are already great, like Kobe and Tim Duncan.maxpower8888 wrote:Am I the only one who thinks that Wembanyama will succeed in the NBA if he can stay healthy, but he's being overhyped currently?
I suspect that's where the overhype comes from, people get crazy excited every year about everybody, even guys like Wiggins, and then have to wait like 6-8 years until the guy wins anything.

In my opinion, the number one thing Wemby does, is still defense. If you think Gobert is good rim protector, just you wait, Wemby is all timer in this category.
Before this season, I was still a huge Wemby offense skeptic, I made long scouting report posts on him, that will probably not gonna age well, cause his offense is insane now. Last year he was still terrible, I was arguing with guys and saying Wemby might never average over 14 ppg. but he can still be at MVP tables cause his defense will be this good. I called out Durant comparisons flat out stupid. Now it seems completely justified. His offense opened this season, he is completely different animal, and watching him, I think he is one of those rarer Euros, where for him it will be even easier to score in the NBA. Wider court, more spacing and faster pace will make this kid unstoppable.
There is no way his skills doesn't translate. But even if he never ends up super dominant offensively, you are still probably getting perennial DPOY, guy is on another level when it comes to protecting the rim. He just needs to stay healthy.

I tend to and have to agree with you, ( I'm also responding to the guy your replying to as well ), I don't see him having a hard time to score in the nba everything is centric towards scoring more so then towards defense, even as you say if he does not become a great offensive weapon he will still become a great player, the only thing preventing him is Mental ala Ben, and Injuries that's it.

My only question is if he reaches the touch and finesse of a Durant level scorer. If he does he will be anchoring a team that will be contending for as long as he stays healthy. His defense is off the charts. Hoping the Rockets get that lucky ball.

I presume it's "possible" since he's so young so theoretically its possible but theres like a 99.9% chance he wont get to that level
Mind u, Durant being THAT good of a scorer at his height is incredible combined with his ball handling - durant's a unicorn basically
Wemby being 7'5 means he can literally take a shot anytime over anyone
There is no realstic way Wemby will ever be the perimeter threat that Durant is and thats fine..
If that were to happen he will be the undisputed goat by the time he's 23 lol
Let's not get carried away..he will never be able to handle the ball or shoot as well as Durant but that's ok cuz he's 7'5

There's vid of him draining corner threes with fluid, effortless, left-handed form when he was 16. That was one of the things that had me posting, over two years ago, "This the next Kareem, y'all."
As a prospect, he's on that Wilt, KAJ, LBJ level, with the caveat of durability concerns. I think his durability will be fine, personally, (I think his build, fluidity, and habits will sustain him), but only time will tell. It's a concern, of course.
And yes, I'd love nothing more than to see him in H-Town!

I don't want to put a ceiling on Wemby, and I think he really can be a major, big-time perimeter threat, but Durant came into the league shooting 87% from the line and is at 89% for his career. That's probably too high of a bar. If Wemby peaks/primes at 85%, you probably feel he's hit his full potential. But yeah, I don't want to project him, just to enjoy him. But let's understand that KD is among the best shooters ever to play the game, particularly in the context of his length.
