True. He's never catching Russell.
But he's improving his case for second place over Kareem.

He could easily stayed at home considering he got the gold and is 39. But instead, he shows up with a Kobe during the Olympics energy.
So is LeBron using the Olympics to get the GOAT stamp?

I have 3 players in the best ever spot and I won't call either Russell/MJ/Lebron the clear goat.
At worst if you hate him, let's say top 10
Winning a gold medal doesn't push him higher on ANYONE's ranking. It's an achievement for him, yeah his legacy as well, it's not going to budge the goat argument for anyone.
Heat3 wrote:Definitely done to pad his stats in the legacy department. He’s not going to he the GOAT though. By the time people forget MJ, someone else will get pushed to take the spot.

Yeah but anyone that calls him just “top 10” isn’t just a hater, they’re delusional.
But yeah winning gold doesn’t do much. It’s crazy that every single thing he does is seen as some calculated move for his legacy. It’s weird and kinda pathetic how people go out of their way to create narratives out of thin air.
Dude loves basketball and is getting the chance to win one more gold for his country. That’s it. Anything else is people grasping at straws.
Yes but the wording wasn't negative enough.bkkrh wrote:There is literally a thread about Lebron's legacy if he wins Olympics MVP on page 2 of this board.

MJ may not have had something as bad as 2011 but he’s never done anything as impressive as 2016 either.
Tell me, does 2008 stop Tom Brady from being the GOAT QB?
One black mark is a good way to poo poo something ridiculously huge. Like oops. It was an accident! It was an entire series.
Brady only plays half the game, and his legendary coach made some pretty questionable decisions, and it was only one game, so nah, not really a great example.
Not as impressed with 2016 as LeBron Lovers. Literally a moronic Draymond decision away from losing 4-1 in that series.
Anyway, there’s a thread for this kind of debate, so I’ll stop hijacking this one.
People answered the OP’s question pretty early. This doesn’t matter for the GOAT debate. It’s a fun last international farewell tour for a group of legends, and I’m glad to see Lebron, Steph, and KD get this hopefully gold send off.
