Basketball is really popular here - especially amongst minorities and the children of immigrants (I am one myself). And obviously there are a lot of them here, Vancouver is one of them most diverse cities in the world.

IMO there is room for another team in Vancouver, whether that is NBA or NFL. I think NBA has a better chance of working though, because it's just a more popular sport among people that are under 40.

Let me start by saying, that I really hope Vancouver gets a team again. The NBA would be a massive success there. The league royally screwed up when it moved the Grizz.

Unfortunately for Vancouver/B.C. fans however, I feel the league has already settled on Seattle & Vegas. Both have had a tremendous amount of momentum in recent years in regards to getting teams (New arena's + pro-active ownership groups) & Mark Cuban mentioned both by name when he was asked about expansion recently. It's going to happen. Just a matter of when. Hopefully sooner rather than later, cause I'm sick of waiting.

Vegas is business thought. The fan base is not really there. Vancouver gives another team to Canada and how amazing would be a Toronto x Vancouver rivalry. Canada as a country should push hard for another team.

I don't think Toronto and Vancouver would have a big rivalry because of how far apart they are. Vancouver and Seattle is a potential rivalry though.
still learning the game

The NBA is business thought. Whatever Vegas lacks in fanbase, they make up for in being a destination city. People vastly underestimate just how many corporations and businesses have conferences there even during the winter.

Hockey and the WNBA (!) worked there...it's going to be Vegas unless there's a major hiccup with the gambling aspect. In that case, I think KC would be the next city up.

Bro Vegas seems like it would be a bad move, not for the gambling bit, but the amount of 'tutes.

Milwaukee is close to Chicago. Philly is close to New York. Are there a lot of 76er fans in NYC?

San Diego has been selling out it's AAA hockey games and SDSU basketball games. The Chargers have the worst owner in the NFL and the Padres are only now spending money, and fans will flood Petco Park when they're able again.

The 8th largest US city needs another major sports team. Some small cities have three. We're able to do it now that the sports arena site has an arena group and no height restriction as voted on last month.

Those teams were established decades ago, you can't compare creating teams in the 60's to now.

No one thought OKC would be a viable NBA city and they took the Sonics from Seattle.

It comes down to which group from what city will have the most money. Location will play into it obviously, but the league needs more billionaires to redistribute their wealth throughout the league.

In conclusion m, I’m against expansion. I’ve always looked to relocating teams to better cities before opening up shop on new franchises that will be 5-10 years away from doing anything, if at all.

Someone in this thread suggested Nebraska. Of course we're serious. Vancouver is the next best thing to putting an actual team in China. The NBA would be huge there now.

Seattle + (Vancouver or San Diego) makes the most sense to me.

I'm glad at least someone from another market understands this....

While it might not be as big of a deal in basketball as it is in baseball with scheduling not quite as imbalanced, the travel differences shouldn't be understated. I know that only minutes separate some of these, but still....

Denver is the closest flight in the West for Minnesota at 1:47. Six East flights are as close or closer, including the entire Central Division. Only FIVE flights in the league are longer than to in-division opponent Portland (counting Los Angeles twice).

Spoiler:
Minneapolis to….

Milwaukee 1:03
Chicago 1:07
Indiana 1:27
Detroit 1:30
Cleveland 1:40
Toronto 1:47
Denver 1:47
Oklahoma City 1:48

Memphis 1:49
Dallas 2:06
Atlanta 2:12
Washington 2:15
Charlotte 2:15
Philadelphia 2:21
Utah 2:22
New York/Brooklyn 2:26
New Orleans 2:28
Houston 2:30
San Antonio 2:34
Boston 2:37
Phoenix 2:54
Orlando 2:58
Portland 3:12
Miami 3:20
Sacramento 3:22
Los Angeles x2 3:24
Oakland 3:29

The four Northwest Division opponents are 1st, 2nd, 5th and 10th closest trips in West, and 7th, 8th, 15th and 24th overall for Minnesota.

Add Seattle and either Vegas or Vancouver, move Memphis to the East.

It makes no sense to move Memphis.

All four Southwest Division opponents are closer to Memphis than Minnesota is to its closest Northwest Division opponent.

Spoiler:
Memphis to...

New Orleans 1:09
Dallas 1:19
Houston 1:23
San Antonio 1:41

Minneapolis to….

Denver 1:47
Oklahoma City 1:48
Utah 2:22
Portland 3:12

Agreed.. The most logical choice is to move Minny to the East, with Memphis and OKC in the Southwest.

Portland spends more time traveling than any other team. Adding in Seattle and Vancouver and removing Minny as a division member fixes a lot of really crappy travel woes.

I really don't understand the Vegas thing. They would have a very difficult time getting a permanent fan base there.

My vote goes to either Vancouver or Montreal. Need more Canadian teams.

Also, no way San Diego gets a team. Kawhi would sign there immediately and Balmer knows that, so is going to make sure to lobby against them getting a team.
