Well deserved. He was the regular season best player.

So who should have won it this season?

There were three players who statistically stood out from everybody else...

- Jokic (48 wins)
- Embiid (51 wins)
- Giannis (51 wins)

Am I missing a viable candidate from a better team? Is three wins really that big of a deal when they don't even play in the same conference?

To me the worst part about the MVP discussion this year is that it should've been a great fun discussion. We had 3 guys having legit crazy good seasons. Just for some perspective on this,

Jayson Tatum: 27/8/4 on 58 TS% and elite defense

Yet he was never actually in the discussion for top 3, that is how good the top 3 guys played.

Again to me the lack of actually good discussion is a pretty big let down. I think if youre a Embiid fan or a Giannis fan, I can see why you would think your guy should've won the MVP, they had elite seasons. But some of the arguments being laid out are so bad and lazy, it has killed any chance of this being a good discussion.

I see people talking about Jokic being on a 6th seed compared to say Embiid. Jokic played in more wins this year than either Embiid or Giannis. Someone needs to explain to me why the Bucks and 6ers having more wins without their stars compared to Denver without Jokic is a good argument for them to be MVP.

People bringing up playoffs. Why? The MVP is a regular season award, it has nothing to do with playoffs. Also that argument really makes no sense when it comes to Embiid fans. Jokic has gone further in the playoffs than Embiid. Jokic's 4 trips to the playoffs he has 4 series wins. As we stand right now, Embiid has been to the playoffs 5 times and also has 4 series wins. While Jokic leads Embiid in points, rebounds, assists, steals, TS% and I wont get into the stats like BPM, WS/48 because I don't want to go down the path of "nerd stats".

Again there are good arguments to be had for all 3 guys because all 3 guys had crazy good years. But some of the arguments being laid out in this thread (and the previous MVP threads) have been so lazy and bad, like trolling level or way too emotionally involved level. And just a heads up, showing clips from guys like Nick Wright, Antoine Walker and so on from laughably bad shows from ESPN and Fox Sports is only hurting your arguments, not helping.

And just to add a little more context to this.

Jokic: Played in 46 wins
Embiid: Played in 45 wins
Giannis: Played in 45 wins

When it comes to an individual award like this, if we are going to focus so heavily on team wins, lets just focus on the wins that they actually played in. Who cares that the 6ers or Bucks won 6 games without their stars vs Denver only winning 3 games without their's.

If Embiid was missing Harden and Maxey in the first round, he would have lost to the Raptors too. That's the equivalent of what Jokic has been dealing with all year...

And harris would still be the best player Jokic played with this year, lol.

Fantastic player when he’s not being hunted on Defense.

Almost as if this is a regular season award and there is context required in these discussions.

Why do they have to announce the MVP so late ? The awards should be given a day after the season is over.

To me it always came down to who was doing more with less. Aaron Gordon was the Nuggets 2nd best player this year and I think anyone would agree he's not better than these players:

Holiday
Middleton
Harris
Maxey
less than Harden

After that Denver's depth simply can't compare to the depth of the Bucks and 76ers.

One thing I don't get is the national talking heads vitriol towards analytics(which has been cited for Jokic)when it comes to NBA discussions. Are they intimidated by analytics or something because you don't hear the anger this intensely when it comes to NFL or MLB.

Seeing Sixers fans (and a few Bucks fans) whinge about this is delicious.

The best part is Jokic cares less about the award than whiny fans.

And how TF is he supposed to do that with the talent around him? Get real.

The MVP shouldn't be based on how good your teammates are.

It SHOULD be based on the literal meaning of most valuable player.

Think it’s so that winners of all the awards get a chance to bask.

They canned that nonsense.

MVP being announced in the 2nd round is standard.

This is old news for anyone following though. He won in a landslide and rightfully so. Embiid got 2nd. Giannis 3rd.

Analytics also said prime Harden was better than Jordan offensively

We're all in agreement that Giannis is the actual best and most valuable player in the league right? He just doesn't win because his teammates didn't get hurt till the playoffs? So weird
