Merging the threads until the trade is finalized. No need for two different discussions on the same topic. Thanks!

Fox wants to go to Spurs because he's a good match with Wemby and SAS has the most capspace available (nearly all of it if they want) once his current contact runs out. Again, I'm not saying Fox is a bad player AND would be a great PG for Spurs but they will not go all the way this year or next. And I doubt SAS will trade away the young assets they have now that they can use later to go all in on Wemby+Fox duo from 27/28 with 8+ roster spots still open.
i'm sure that's much of his reasoning but seems like there are other reasons as well.
I agree they won't go all the way this season and 99% not in the next one either but what do they gain by waiting? like I said, Wemby is too good to tank so they might as well start building a winning team around him.
also, as I outlined in previous posts I don't think they'll trade away their "young assets". I think the deal will end up being something like: Vassel + Keldon + 2 Frps and 2 Srps. something along those lines. Vassel is on a 27m per extention so he's basically a neutral asset at best. will he "break out" (mildly) for another team and will end up outplaying his 27m contract? maybe but probably not by much even if that happens. Keldon isn't much of young asset either, as he isn't that young and is basically a useful rotation player on a decent contract
there's no reason for the Spurs to pay Vassel and Keldon 45m combined per season, they're much better off paying say..58 to Fox instead
they'll have one of the most dynamic and dangerous duos in the NBA and it's not because Fox is all that. it's about having to defend Wemby and the two man game between Wemby and a top tier PG (whose also a top 25-35 player). they might as well start working on their chemistry, get Wemby in some playoff games (starting this season) and depending on how they make it through the season, evaluate in the summer and possibly fill out the roster with some more win-now moves (without hurting future flexibility)

So those two plus 4 picks for Fox with the plan to extend him past his current contract. He wants 5yrs/300M so 60M per year.Wemby's rookie extension will be over $60M per year. That's 2/3 of the projected cap on two players. Add the rookies they will draft and whoever they might reup that's an even worse team than they have now.

6 teams involved now, next report will be 8 teams. It just keeps getting bigger!
Will be interesting to see if it legitimately involved 6 teams because that's really rare

his max is 5/296 if he gets traded and only 4/219 if he signs next season as a FA, his supermax is 5/345. he didn't extend in the summer cuz he was betting on himself to get that All-NBA nod and that supermax, once that flamed out he wants out..
my point is, he wants 5/296 but if a deal doesn't get made and he'll end up leaving in FA, he'll only get 4/219. add that to a change of scenery, going to play in his home state with the the most exciting young player and a generational freak in Wemby, with all the media coverage etc - he'll take a little discount, he's not dumb. maybe it ends up being something like 5/270 which is 54m per, that's not a bad pay day and with the cap projected to go up, shouldn't eat that much of the their future cap in 2 or 3 years
he'll take 5/270 or 5/275 and call it a day imo
he's an all-star caliber guard, in his prime..obviously he expects to get paid and that's about his market value , a top 30 player is a max player basically

If it's that many teams, I guarantee one of them is just the Knicks gaining the rights to some euro player who retired 7 years ago. Apparently, that's something Brock Aller likes to do.

The way the new CBA is so restrictive with the aprons, penalties and trade restrictions, it wouldn't surprise me if it takes 5-6 teams to get a decent deal done.

True, the deal that landed Klay in Dallas ended up being a 6 team trade if I remember correctly.
