You picked the one sport of the lot that relies most heavily on skill. Strange choice.

I agree with most of the posters. It has to be football #1 by a wide margin, excepting the quarterback position. Baseball, hockey, golf, tennis, basketball all rely heavily on skill.

1.Running.

Although even that takes skill, it is still the simplest of all pro sports.

Anyways it is probably the most skill heavy "sport" around since athleticism gives you no advantages in poker. The great players love it when people actually think its all based on luck, then sit down to play at the tables at a casino.

Poker isn't the most skill heavy, because "perfect" play can still result in losing. If you want an example of something skill heavy, try checkers. Perfect play beats imperfect play 100% of the time. Perfect play against perfect play draws 100% of the time. Or for a simpler example, tic-tac-toe.

I think it would go (hardest to easiest) - hockey, basketball, football, baseball. The first two you're doing two things at once as basic aspects of the sport (skate/hit puck, run/dribble), the other two it's pretty much either run, or jump, or throw, or swing.

It's obviously a massive generalization though.

someone better explain to Brock Lesnar that football only requires insane athleticism not skills.

I agree with all the people who have said this is an impossible question to answer. But maybe instead you could debate which sport has the biggest jump from amateur to professional level. My first guess is golf, but even there I know some excellent players who have tried to make it as pros and report that the changes in the greens (and probably other things) are so extreme that they just can't adapt.

the fact that his size/athletecism was ENOUGH to even get him a look in the NFL at the age of 28 kind of disproves your point.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that football requires no skill. Rather, that it is the least skill based of the major professional sports.

This isn't a knock on the sport, just an observation. I love football.

You're kidding, right?

This is a sport where people fork over thousands of dollars just to learn how to do the most basic thing, which is hit a ball straight. And most can't even do that with any amount of consistency.

I have a better chance of crossing over Kobe Bryant than I ever will of landing a 300+ yard drive smack center of a fairway on a high fade with the wind blowing towards me.

I'd have to go with baseball.

Uh, hitting a baseball probably requires more skill than any other sport.

Honestly, I think Football has a little bit more skill involved than it's given credit for.

For example a Running Back has to have all of these skills: Running while maintaing pad level, elusiveness, ability to run over a tackler, Vision, Ability to hold onto a ball while getting hit, Ability to fall forward, Blitz Recognition, Blitz pickup.

Seriously? Golf or baseball would be #1 if you're ranking which sports require the most skill.

yeah anyone who says Baseball is outta their mind. The fact that this is a basketball forum and that a certain arguable GOAT of this game struggled playing non-MLB baseball & came back to pro basketball & dominated again should be an indication on the unique skill level needed to be MLB player.

just look at something silly like Pros vs Joes - the Joes never do well in the baseball challenges against over the hill players. I've seen former NBA players and NFL players get beat though....

This is all bull, it's a proven fact that a good to excellent O-line can make even the ****, slowest, dumbest RB look good to even great. Let's face it the best fantasy backs in the NFL often have great blockers, when those backs get traded or cut in favor of new blood they often "regressed" when joining a team with a shiet @ss or unproven group of Offensive linemen.

SMH at all the people saying football. Just the difference between blocking for a running play vs, blocking for a passing play is more complex than any single aspect of basketball.
