Re: Nick Collison with some great advice for role players
agree 100%, respect to Collison.
Talking, setting screens, doing the little things might not make the highlights on ESPN but it helps your team stop a critical play, get a nice shot up, get a good position etc...
And coaches want you in their team... basketball teams have 12 spots, usually a 8-9 men rotation... but can only really have 1-3 dominant ball users.... so there's plenty of time for a role player willing to do the facilitating, coach related moves/plays etc...
Coaches value good role players who doesnt jack up shots but emphasize the coaching strategy on the court..

Re: Nick Collison with some great advice for role players
This is great, and it's nice to see the respectful responses. Collison has been an excellent player for years. I remember when the early Dan Rosenbaum adjusted plus/minus ratings came out five or six years ago, and Nick Collison rated as one of the top players in the NBA, everybody was like "WTF?" (Looks like Hollinger's study repeated the result over a different sample, which is interesting!) Collison's remarks are backed up by the data -- the "little things" truly are that important to a basketball game. Bravo.

he posterized isaiah thomas with a sick pick at 1:02!!!!
Probably the greatest comment on youtube ever.
Anyways, terrific attitude, He's paid to play and insted of whinging and going to a lesser team for more oppotunity, he wants to help his team win the best way he can
Respect

Re: Nick Collison with some great advice for role players
One of my random nights of lurking, I stumbled upon advanced stats stating Collison, and all his hard work, is one of the best players in the NBA, according to this metric. Some really interesting discussion and some very intelligent posts and posters. Just thought I'd leave it here for anyone that was interested.

Nick is one of my favourite NBA players. Whenever I see him on the court I just find myself cheering for him.

Unless he banged your mom, I would say it's impossible not to like Nick Collison.
Why would you not like Nick Collison banging your mom? My mom's divorced and I wouldn't mind if she had a young guy like Nick.
are you sarcastically whoring your mom? Not nice

Re: Nick Collison with some great advice for role players
The plays I really love seeing are the screens off the ball, because even real fans don't notice them easily so they give you very little cred, but can make an important difference in the offensive flow.
Never expected he would have had such a good career when he was in KU.

Good player. The kind you hate when he's on the other team and love when he's on yours.

Did a very good job at guarding Dirk in last year's series. Blue collar worker, love it
