Re: Rondo - team cancer?
Rondo isn't a cancer, but to me, he seems like a player that is hard to adjust to off the floor.
He isn't high maintenance or a douchebag, but he is peculiar and quirky. He plays the game differently then any PG I have seen in my life, or have read about in the time the NBA has been around.
He is a talent that delivers a set of skills that we have really never seen combined in a point guard.
Frankly, he is weird. He is a strange guy. That may be offputting to some guys, but he is one hell of a talent.,

Why even respond to the troll?
First of all, he said LeBron has a wife that isn't true.

Re: Rondo - team cancer?
I relayed that in the wrong context, what I meant was that is was BS on his part if he was acting like that. That's why I said it goes both ways. Trust me I'm not giving Ray a pass, truthfully speaking I never really liked the dude. He was always kind of a prick even going back to his UCONN days.smith2373 wrote:DEEP3CL wrote:I don't think Rondo is a cancer, and whatever happened between him and Ray it's definitely a two sided argument. This whole Ray not liking to take orders/listening to a younger player is bull sh*t. It goes both way. Rondo had to know Ray knew a lot about the game, but at the same time Ray had to be receptive to what Rondo had to offer also.
I don't like the Celtics, but this is a media agenda to ruin Rondo's rep among his peers and fans. That's just the bottom line and anybody refuting that is just stupid.
How is it bull sh*t?
You don't hear about Pierce & KG having a problem listening to a younger player in Rondo or accepting the fact that this is Rondo's team now, why is it such a problem with Ray Allen? Why is Ray Allen getting a pass for acting like an arrogant diva? And then you have Doc Rivers coming out and saying that Ray was a little jealous because the Celtics tried to re-sign KG before they began contract talks with him. But yet people, not necessarily you are acting as if Ray is some saint and the Celtics management and players just treated him like ****.

Right, the national media narrative is to try and convince everyone that what happens in Miami or LA is saintly and worthy of talk/praise 24/7
What? They've been pilloried in the media for 2 years!

Why do you think he was so close to getting traded a year ago? You think teams go out of their way to shop their youngest and best player if he isn't a douche?

He was pissed about his position on the team I believe

Rondo wasn't getting shopped because of his attitude. He was being shopped because Danny Ainge didn't know if he could trust having Rondo as his best player once the Big 3 all left for the years coming. And what do you know, Rondo has the best season of his career and helps lead the team to the ECF, and now Danny Ainge deems Rondo untradeable.

How do you know it wasn't that Ainge couldn't get what he wanted for Rondo, so he gave up and stopped trying to avoid making him angrier?

Ray-Ray comes off as the bigger baby of the situation. He's really that butthurt about a younger, better player becoming the "man" on the Celtics that he had to bail out for the superfriends in south beach? loser move IMO. You don't join your rival right after getting ousted by them in the playoffs.
Rondo is just fine, his attitude, like Bryant's is what makes him a great player.
i agree with bloodsport, as to ray-ray being the baby, his relationship with kobe going back to the seattle days suggests that he is , ummm, "precious" to say the least...

Re: Rondo - team cancer?
As others have pointed out, Rondo's personality and demeanor have been the subject of criticism his entire career going back Kentucky. Meanwhile, Ray is the NBA spokesperson for multiple charity foundations, recipient of the NBA Sportsmanship award, and by all accounts a standup guy.
Now, it's unfair to judge a person solely on their reputation. Maybe Ray is actually a pathological super-diva who is so devious he's managed to hide it from everyone all these years. Maybe the alleged Rondo feud was an isolated incident that just got to him. I still haven't heard him say anything bad about Rondo, and I haven't heard Rondo say anything bad about him, so whatever happened, both have kept it professional, which should be good enough for all of us.
On a side note, the only story I can remember involving Ray talking trash about another player was that 2004 spat between him and Kobe. Does anyone remember that? I thought Ray hit the nail on the head.

Is that bolded part eerie or what? Ray is a prophet.

"He feels like he needs to show the league and the people in this country that he is better without Shaq, that he can win without Shaq," Allen said. "That he can still average 30 points and he can still carry the load on this team.
The point production is not so much what people will look at because (Tracy) McGrady did it in Orlando and Allen (Iverson) did it in Philly. But can you win championships? I think that is special. Can he make everybody better?
"He has the talent. But is his attitude going to sometimes allow him to take the backseat and let Lamar Odom shine and let Caron Butler have his nights and bring those big guys (Chris Mihm and Slava Medvedenko) along?"
Allen predicted that the Lakers would not be nearly as successful with their current roster and that that would eventually make Bryant frustrated.
"If Kobe doesn't see that he needs two and a half good players on this team to be a legitimate playoff contender and maybe win a championship, in about a year or two he will be calling out to (Lakers owner) Jerry Buss that we need some help in here, or trade me. We'll all be saying we told you so when he says that."
Allen also took exception to Bryant's trash-talking.
"I think he talks because he feels like he has to talk," Allen said. "He's out there playing, and if he does something good he feels like he needs to pat himself on the back. Because to me it seems like he is isolated out there. As much as it's five-on-five, I don't see much camaraderie going on out there with his teammates."
Allen said at the end of the game, when a Sonics comeback victory was nearly decided, Bryant remained intent upon proving how good he was. When Antonio Daniels told 6-foot-8, 250-pound power forward Reggie Evans to get out on Bryant defensively, Allen said Bryant began to say how he was now 230 pounds and how he could take Evans.
"I was like, 'Well go ahead and take him then,'" Allen said. "He's fighting all these battles that he doesn't need to fight, meanwhile his team is losing the war."

Because Ainge wouldn't have made Rondo untradeable if he was trying to get rid of him, despite the fact that he didn't like the offers that were made. He obviously made Rondo untradeable because he wants to keep him with the team and sees him as the future of the team.

Lots of excuses made so willingly for Rondo because he "gives it his all" and has authority problems. Can you imagine if LeBron had reports of alienating teammates or throwing tantrums? The slightest reports about Dwight being cancerous and everyone is up in arms about the dude. Lord help Westbrook if he did such things, despite giving his all on the court.

Dwight won't sign with the Celtics no matter who's on the team cause we don't play in New York or Hollywood.

I know for a fact he can be a douche off the court. Most folks on this board have jobs, I have no clue what you do for a living just like you have no clue what I do.
Thanks for playing though.
