Debatable call I made in a game today

I have a question too..

Scenario- im posting up and my teammate sends me a bounce pass in the post. As the ball bounces, i my hand is on the ball with another bounce as i secure it with both hands. Then, i take a bounce and as i go for my move, im called for a double dribble....
My argument was that i never had possession of the dribble coming to me, when i secured it with bot hands, i took a dribble...they said my first dribble was actually the bounce coming to me as i had my hand on the ball....

whats the right call?

It's not like we were actually going to jump it up lol. I was being sarcastic with most of my racist comments. What is true is that on the basketball court, skinny white players ( myself) are the minority. My opinion was not listened to , and whatever it happens I don't care. when I say jump I mean that we should shoot for it.

I also have a tough decision that I faced the other day that I would like to discuss and ask for opinions

I was playing pickup ball outside. I had the rock at the top of the key, about to drive into the hole for what looked like an easy layup. All of a sudden though, I hear music coming from up the street. It was the ice cream truck. Keep in mind that it was a very hot day and I was sweating my balls off. I decided to drop the ball and run up to the truck and get a cone. I thought it was a great idea at the time, but not everyone felt the same way. So my question is did I make the right decision? Or should I have continued to drive to the hoop, finish the play, and THEN go get an ice cream cone? Also, keep in mind that the ice cream truck driver was a big black guy.

Thoughts?

This is definitely a "defense ball" situation, considering this apparently 'enormous black man' just made a great defensive paly.

It's defence ball. It is a held ball. It ould be considered a jump ball or travel in a reffed game. Either way, neither had possession of the ball and it was tied up. Defence ball.

As fr the person who batted down the pass and then dribbled again. If you fumbled it trying to catch it then you're fine with a dribble, but if you knocked the ball down with your hand and then picked it up and dribbled again it's a double dribble. The question is about control.

I think you clearly need to call a timeout and go for the ice cream truck. He might be dealing drugs out of it though so I'd be careful

I assume everyone in every story is Korean until told otherwise, thanks for clarifying that he's black.

Also, I think it's hilarious that the GB gets a thread because some kid is butt hurt about being ignored in a pick-up game. Now I have to look one thread lower to find the latest on LeBron's hairline. DAMN YOU!

How am I in any way butt hurt about being ignored in a game? i did not post this thread because I was upset. I gave me reasoning for why i thought the ball should be a jump ball, and everyone on the court said I was wrong. I didn't mean it like they were not even paying attention to me. I meant it like " I said jump ball for such n such reason and they were like REALLY? REALLY MY NI**A , REALLY MY NI**A ! THAT HIS ROCK YOU DAT HIS ROCK YO. JUMP BALL MY AZZ.

I think its very common for people playing pick up ball to not really know the rules of basketball . Even though a lot of things should just be ignored because its just pick up ball. Of course the race jokes are just to make the thread humorous. The GB has literally one or two good topics every month. Its always KOBE BRYANT DA DERP DA DER OR LEBRON CAN'T DA DERP DA DEE, OR KEVIN DURANT IS DA DERP DA DERP DA DEEDLY DUM. I think this thread could actually teach people something about what it means to be a disadvantaged minority on the basketball court, and how we can in turn educate people who do not know the rules of basketball. I think now that my call was wrong. I learned something about the game that I would not have known otherwise.

LOL@Jump ball is pickup games.

The ball goes to the defensive team that stopped him or the offensive player that was blocked shoots it. If the defensive player prefers to shoot the ball, he or she speaks up, and does it.

My question is how did the defense justify it being their ball? If the shot is blocked it can never be a travel.

Any held ball is defense ball, jump ball is not possible, there are no refs. Shooting for it slows the game down, it`s always defense ball.
