@WojYahooNBA: Spurs and Jackson discussed a release prior to trade deadline, but sides agreed to go forward together for rest of season, source says.

Pretty **** if they had agreed to keep him till the end of the regular season and then pull this.

This is considered baiting. This is your only warning.

EDIT: Wait...how many warnings do you already have against your record? Wow.

Jackson was automatic in the WCF last season. The guy couldn't miss, but based off of the stats I'm seeing from him, it looks like he has played like garbage this season.

If my team needed a wing player, I would definitely pick him up, maybe the Celtics should look at him.

There we go. Surprising given Pop's reputation as the Jax Whisperer, the only active coach who could keep Jackson on the rails. Guess some players are truly beyond help.

he was on a roster by the cutoff date, so he is eligible to play for another team in the playoffs

This makes more sense. Otherwise, why would you ever cut someone before the cutoff date? You could just wait until the next day and make sure they can't help anyone else in PO.

Very bizarre move. It's not going to help the Spurs in one of their last runs as a contending team.

I guess I'm just a naive fan but honestly if I were at Jack's point in my career I'd be happy to just sit on the bench and shut up. don't these guys look at players like Sprewell who lose a ton of money being boneheads and learn any lessons? (rhetorical question, don't answer it)

I guess it's human nature not to appreciate what you have until it's gone.

Does anyone see Jax getting another chance with an NBA team at this point?

Of course. If he can in fact play in PO, he's gonna.

He can't play in the playoffs -- I'm talking about next season.

That sucks. I was looking forward to seeing him in the Playoffs. Such a random move.

He can't be on another playoff roster this season (contrary to what the poster you're replying to says). As for the bolded part, that is exactly what some teams do with their waivers. The Jazz infamously did this with Raja Bell, and held onto him after the deadline. Bell bragged to friends that he was going to run off and rejoin his former Suns coach and floor general in LA, to help the Lakers with a playoff run. The Jazz, still in the hunt for a playoff spot themselves, took exception. They straight up waived Bell after the deadline so he couldn't, rather than go so far as to save the team money with an earlier buyout. They were that concerned about it.

I still see him being in the NBA.

I don't think he's as bad (mental wise) as he was in Indiana. He made a really big change once he went to Golden State. It was such a big maturity change that he was even named co-captain with Baron Davis (I think that's where the "Captain Jack" nickname came from, although he probably earned it earlier with a different team).

After Golden State, I haven't been updated on him anymore but I'm pretty sure he's still a pretty mature guy now.

I see, thanks for the clarification. I find this rule to be very unfair to the players, then.

Man that sucks, we'll miss Jack in the playoffs.

Still, I trust the Spurs judgement, he must have really been disrupting the team somehow...

If it was that that bad they could have fought it when they were working on the new CBA. In the end it really just affects a small number of guys that, at the end of the day, will still get paid for not playing. I think it's more annoying for fans than it may be fore most of the players that are caught in this.
