Clear cut teams in the entire league that I would say are better: Miami, OKC, INDY.

HOU also has a chance of developing something absurdly filthy of Howard goes there.

Huh? Indy wasn't even a better team than THIS year's banged up Clippers team. They finished with a significantly worse record in the EAST. Sure they got further due to laughable competition and a lucky break facing teams they match up against but it's a joke to set it in stone like this and act like the Clippers don't get substantially better.

except every guy sans Blake on the clippers won't get better. KG and PP are on the decline, CP3 isn't always healthy unfortunately. KG and PP aren't dominant players anymore. They won't command double teams against elite and well made squads in the playoffs. They could be a great regular season team but these moves should be thought of with the mindset they'll get DEEP into the playoffs. Lets face it, in the "laughable competition" in the East, PP and KG were fairly unremarkable. CP3+their decline isn't a sure thing for anything. It all hinges on Blake's development IMO.

Part of my prediction regarding INDY is that I think george makes a considerable leap. Outside of CP3 I think he'll better than everyone on the Clips current roster next season. Unless ya'll get D12 too, but i'm operating under the assumption that you will have a Blake/KG front court. That FC would still get eaten alive by memphis, GSW and maybe even the Spurs. OKC still has considerably better wing play as well.

Blake Griffin is still miles better than George as an all around player. Predict what you want. Pierce and KG even as declining players are legit all stars and with CP3 and Griffin all they have to do is play D and hit wide open shots, much easier than what they have had to do in recent years. I'm not talking about 5 years from now but for the next year or two the Clippers will be an undisputed title contender after this trade. I think Vegas will have them at 1st or 2nd best odds at the title to be honest.

KG's and Pierce's stats last year.

Pierce: 18.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 5 apg, 1 spg. PER of 19, TS% of 56.

KG: 15 ppg, 8 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1 spg, 1 bpg. PER of 19+, TS% of 53+.

Now mind you this was in an average of 30 mpg as guys having to generate all the offense and work for everything. Now you add them to two of the top passers at their positions in the NBA who are completely willing to share the ball and two guys who attract nonstop doubles and take the pressure off them? They will be in the finals if they play as good as they did last year, or anywhere close.

Blake isn't miles better than George, PG is an excellent two way player, but yes, Pierce and KG if they don't have a drastic decline are still very useful players. In addition, the Clippers would still have to do other things to fill out the roster, so they have a chance to get some solid hole plugging players.

Blake blows George out of the water impact wise and as an all around player.

21/10/4 PER 36 with a PER of 22.5, TS% of 57, WS/48 of .200.

VS

16.7/7.5/4 PER 36 with a PER of 17, TS% of 53, WS/48 of .145

It's a slaughter. Mainly in the win shares/impact end. George is a fantastic young player but in no way, shape or form is he comparable to Griffin right now. Griffin also has the greater upside most likely. You guys clearly have no idea how big those edges are in metrics. They are similar to comparing CP3 to somebody like Jrue Holiday. Again a pretty massive difference.

George is an All-NBA level defender while Blake is an average one, so while Blake's offensive production wins, George at the least closes the gap with his defense. Both excellent young players, but "miles" ahead isn't the descriptor whether you pick one or the other as better

Two top 20 players in the league that you can't really compare.

Look at their playoff averages this season. Those guys broke down. Even on Doc's controlled minutes for KG, he just tailed off in the playoffs as did Pierce (although the whole rondo going down on his ACL could be used as an excuse for pierce, this increasing his workload). You can coast through the regular season but I don't believe both of them have the gear necessary to excel as potential 2nd/3rd options on a contender anymore. Pierce maybe, he at least can alleviate ball handling pressure but Garnett will not be able to guard Gasol/Zbo or Bogut if he gets healthy. Not to mention Asik or Howard depending on where they end up.

Also what is critical and being overlooked is what role players will return. Hollins is ok for a scrub center I suppose, good for 6 fouls. Odom is still below average...not sure how much long term money you guys actually want to tie up there. Billups will prolly return for another ring chasing season, but he has lost some considerable ground. Bledsoe probably won't be here in case any nagging injuries do occur so the back court defense should suffer some. I think a considerable part will actually be keeping Barnes. He was solid last year. I'm sure he's not expecting MLE money but I doubt 800k will keep him.

Clips have talent for sure, I just think the window under the proposed trade is like...a year. Which is bad business IMO, but if they can pull it off...sure...go for it. Durant and Westbrook aren't about to be impeded by them, Butler's a better defender then Pierce and KG isn't that fearful a rim protector anymore...But hey, he can make free throws, so there is progress there.

Like I said though, the team will go as far as Blake improves. He HAS to ascend into a top 15 player.

Haha I love how overrated George gets from a few national TV games where he played solid D on Lebron. Look man... I watched both players 60+ games this year on league pass. George's defense and Griffin's could both be described as "above average" or "respectable" this year. Blake clearly made leaps and bounds improvements with his D, but neither is an All NBA defender, or top tier defender.

Miles was an exaggeration but you also can't compare them directly now and it is a pretty good gap between them. Blake is a top 15 player, George is a 25-30 player probably. Not sure why George has clearly more upside as the other poster described though. Griffin is incredibly raw yet still dominant often times. I think Griffin has the potential to easily become a top 5 player in the league with undisputed first option potential. I don't see anything more than elite 2nd option in George's future. I think it's easy to overrate him because it's still very fresh in our minds the flashes he showed against Miami, while forgetting how he completely vanished the last few games of that series.

Of course the rest of the roster needs to be filled in but Pierce and KG have aged like fine wine. Obviously a short window but we are talking about 4 legit all stars on the same team. Unlike the Lakers guys... these 4 care about nothing more than winning, have insane work ethics (all 4 of them) and are more balanced. Two year title window followed by max cap space in 2015 is nothing to complain about. Time for the Clippers to go all in and stop letting opportunity pass them by.

BTW Blake is a top 12-15 player.. so he's already top 15.

Blake had an injury that would have kept him out 3 weeks if he listened to doctors. In both of Blake's playoff runs he's had substantial injuries and the sample is too small to use anyways. Point is George isn't as good as Blake now and I personally think Blake actually has more upside.

Except they haven't. The playoffs this past year should be a clear indicator that they can't carry a team anymore. They will have to glorified role players. Which is fine, and they can help the clips VERY short term, but it is not as big a window as u think. You've already incated you think the east is week...how do figure they handle up in the West with some quite potent teams. Hell the teams not in the playoffs in the west could dominate the Clips front line. LMA+whoever will be a factor, Love+Pek is absurdly more strong then the Clips, and the Jazz could have a monster forming in Favors+Kanter. If you want to assume the very best for ur team thats fine, but I have no reason to not believe other smart and well formed teams won't wear on the clips throughout the course of the season.

Obviously a short window but we are talking about 4 legit all stars on the same team.

I'm not so sure they deserve all star honors (KG and Pierce) but that's another debate. Neither will deserve it in the west this coming season, and if they get it, it will probably undeserved (especially if the idiotic fans vote them in).

Unlike the Lakers guys... these 4 care about nothing more than winning, have insane work ethics (all 4 of them) and are more balanced.

Not sure why you took a shot at the Lakers, and no, I'm not a Lakers fan, I'm a wiz fan, I'm ecstatic the trade will open up another playoff spot in the east :D
But yes they do compliment each other well. Pierce is no better a shooter then Butler though. So I only see KG being the real motivating cog here.

Two year title window followed by max cap space in 2015 is nothing to complain about. Time for the Clippers to go all in and stop letting opportunity pass them by.

Chris Paul will be 30 then.

http://www.hoopsworld.com/2015-nba-free-agents

No real big name PGs, or SGs, maybe bring eric gordon back? SF class is mediocre. Good PF crop, but you supposedly have that set with Blake. I imagine memphis won't let go of marc, or Brooklyn letting Lopez go. Could bring back DeAndre? :P

BTW Blake is a top 12-15 player.. so he's already top 15.

I'd rattle off names, but that is better suited for the player comparison board if u care to create a thread on it. Agree to disagree.

It's my opinion, didn't present the upside portion as fact. Don't care if it's the minority or not. I see Paul George as a better version of Luol Deng in his prime. Incredible 2nd option, never an MVP candidate like Blake will likely be and was in his rookie year.

Regardless of playoff struggles or not.. it's a fact, not opinion that as a whole Pierce and KG are outstanding players for their respective ages. I'm not saying KG and Pierce will do quite as well in the west but I think having two players next to them who get doubled constantly will also allow them to take less of a beating and get easier shots. Kevin Garnett is Michael Jordan freak strong for his frame and he actually manhandled Pek last year and did just fine at Center, although much like Pau Gasol it obviously wears him down quicker. Not sure why you're talking about a face up big who's always played more like a SF anyways getting outmuscled. Blake Griffin's splits at center are better than at PF believe it or not, so if need be he can guard the centers. He actually did an outstanding job guarding Dwight when Dwight was still in Orlando. If Blake can guard Dwight, he will be fine.

I don't assume you're a Lakers fan, I was comparing them because it was similar talent and with that team people were acting like it was a lock for the title. Difference is the Clips would be more balanced and have less egos. Pierce absolutely is a SIGNIFICANTLY better all around shooter and player than Caron. So no KG isn't the only big upgrade. Pierce put up 18.5 ppg last year on great efficiency. Butler is one of the streakiest players in the NBA and stats won't show that apparently.

I'm not going to speculate who will or won't be available in free agency two summers for now because it's way too wide open. The crop doesn't need to be elite, it's enough to fill in the roster around two superstars though every year. Not sure why you think a skill based PG with one of the greatest IQ's and skill sets of all time is going to be done by 30 though? He may not be a top 3 or 4 player but he will be a top 10 player likely into his early-mid 30's.

Rattle off names all you want, anything pertaining to EVIDENCE which is what really matters, shows Blake Griffin is a top 10-15 player.

Blake Griffin has quickly become the most underrated and disrespected player in the NBA. Two straight All NBA 2nd team selections, 3 straight all star appearances, 21/10/4 averages his first 3 years PER 36 and people are acting like he's a 3rd option, average player. Not many players have this amazing of a 3 year start to their careers.

Apparently Griffin has a greater upside than Paul George, guys. Well that's news to the entire RealGM forum.

It's my opinion, didn't present the upside portion as fact. Don't care if it's the minority or not. I see Paul George as a better version of Luol Deng in his prime. Incredible 2nd option, never an MVP candidate like Blake will likely be and was in his rookie year.

I respect your opinion. I just feel after watching what George is capable of this post-season most would think he's one of the next big things in this league. Not that Griffin isn't an incredible talent but I feel there's holes in his game that gets exposed mainly in the playoffs. I think his J needs to get significantly better and his post-play needs to strengthen a lot as well.
