Needs to fix his jump shot and create a bit more of an offensive game, but besides that I like his potential.... He just needs more seasoning....

Marion averaged 20 & 11 over a 3 year stretch. I'd be absolutely thrilled if MKG could do that one day.

The Gerald Wallace comparison sucks IMO. Crash is a much springier, rangier athlete than MKG and their games have enough differences. I think he's more like a young Ron Artest except a worse shooter and a much better head/feel for the game. I think the jumper is going to get fixed to a respectable level, with the ceiling of a Mashburn-like midrange game but probably never a long distance threat.

What he does well: Rebound, finish around the rim, get hustle buckets, defense, handles for a SF, post up and slash. Pretty much everything.

What he doesn't do well: Shoot, defend without fouling (nit picking, statistically he's fine but he got carried away with overaggressive defense last year in spurts, shouldn't be a problem going forward), get to the foul line enough (rookie treatment hosed him last year).

All he has to do to join the realm of most-talked about SFs is get a respectable shot and refine his game with some veteran tricks and know-how.

I think he should try shooting underhand from the field.

Because of his motor and work ethic, he'll be in this league for a while. His driving skills are nice and are only going to get better but he does need to fix that jumper.

Drummond maybe, but I would probably still take him over Lillard and Barnes.

Not Beal, though.

Gilchrist has some various tools and skills...all a bit raw. He is just a couple yr out of high school,is a wing without a very good jump shoot. Just being athletic can get you so far. I expect over time he develops but to be a plus as a SF...you need to score and it helps a lot to shoot well.

People are overreacting.
He will probably never reach the top 5 or top 10 in the NBA, but he has the tools to become something like the second best player for a contender.
Despite his shooting woes, he averaged 9 points per game in the age of 19, in a very troubled team.
He is already a very good finisher and a clever cutter. If he can improve his midrange jumper from the 30% territory that it is now to about 40%, he will be alright offensively.
His passing, defense, rebounding and his instincts are impressive for his age.
I expect him to average something like 13/8/2/1.5/1, which is not bad for a 20 year old SF.

The Wallace Comps are close, but I think MKG's handles are already better than Crash's ever were. I was really impressed with his ability to put the ball on the floor and can foresee some point forward in his future. Intangibles are all there and is non-stop hustle. Already can guard 4 positions well.

Obvious flaw shooting is obvious. Duh. But I think he'll overcome it. He shot his midrange shot much better after his string of injuries midseason. He'll be fine. If this is the kind of player he can be with one year of experience and a flawed jumpshot, the sky's the limit for him once he becomes a bit more consistent. And with his drive and character I have no doubt he'll grow by exponential bounds. Star potential imo, with the way he can get to the rim in the half court. Should get himself to the line more where he shoots a respectable %.

I can see how you take Drummond over him in a re-draft, but I wouldn't take any of the other 2012 lottery picks.
