I don't get why athletes don't use condoms. Obviously they love their $$ and love to spend it on parties, clubs, cars and different girls.

So why not use a condom and prevent having a kid with one girl and forking out 10K+ on child support

150k+ on child support p.a., that's like 1/100 of his salary, not even counting endorsement money.
guess he couldn't care less.
more concerning: probably another child that has to grow up without a father.
seriously, what's up with all these pro athletes? do we ever hear again the word "family" in sports media? or only baby mama? child support?
or am i just super old-fashioned?

He has to pay that until that child is 18 aka even after he's retired and those NBA/endorsement checks stop coming in. Do you know how many NBA players go broke after they're retired?

It's needlessly throwing away money. ps. Good luck Dwight Howard.

So how long before this kid appears in one of those Kia commercials as a younger Blake?

Blake doesn't need to settle for raising another man's child. I hope he loves this chick.

Like someone else said, you still pay after your career is over.

Still, I'd be pretty annoyed if I were him because that amount isn't about just supporting the child, it's about supporting the mother too. That's a huge problem in the whole child support system, too often it's about the mother getting support, and fathers shouldn't be responsible for financially supporting mothers.

While I think it's completely ridiculous that some athletes can't manage to prevent fathering children when they don't want any, I don't think they should make an even bigger mistake by getting married (that'll cost them a lot more than 1/100th over their salary.) For all you know though they may have plans of starting a family at some point, but they're not ready for one yet.

The mother has to take care of the child so why would they not get money as well?
Generally true, though the father could also take care of the child, then again, the justice system is also biased towards women when it comes to custody related issues.

I agree with you. It's weird because most NBA players these days grew up without a father and were either grown up in the hood or by distant family members. As soon as they are drafted, they go all out on media saying they are respectable individuals in society who will provide their families with support that they did not get from their fathers...

Fwd 2-3 years down the line and they end up having 2-3 baby mama's

Look at Dwight Howard. Earlier in his playing career, all he spoke about how religious he is and what a devout Christian he is

And now he has one baby mama in Canada as well

Well...to actually be accurate, this is not a safe or highly effective method of birth control

It works fine if the person has decent self control, which maybe Blake didn't have.

Interesting. Now I would presume to say that it is much easier to perfectly use a condom that to perfectly use the pill out method, but I'm no expert or reliable source to go to for such information.

That article also says that inbreeding can only increase the chance of genetic defects by 2-3%, so I'd question its validity entirely.

Oh don't you worry, I'm quite aware of that, though of course efficacy is also affected by improper use

A parent's responsibility is to their child, not to the other parent. The custodial parent should get money to spend on care for the child only, that is the only non-custodial parent's responsibility. Being a custodial parent doesn't make you not financially responsible for yourself, that's an absurd suggestion.

Paying for 1 kid isn't going to make Blake go broke, even if Blake paid child support for 30 years.

The bigger danger of going broke comes from paying for their "friends and family" - aka, moochers and long-lost cousins - or getting flat-out scammed by con artists. That and getting married and losing half in the divorce.

When countless women want to jump on your ****, your instincts won't let you say no. You can hold out for awhile, but the biological imperative is way too strong.
