Jazz offered him the same contract as favors and he declined, it think it was 4/48 or something like that. That was at the beginning of last year, he knows hes going to get paid.

Not a max player, 12-14m/year would be good value.
But the Jazz should do all they can to keep him because he is a very good player, young, and is a good example for the rooks to follow.

Well the suns offered eric gordon a max deal and new orleans matched it, and i'd like to think gordon hayward is more useful then an injury plagued eric gordon so i do think the max salary he is going to find is a max deal... having said that he is definitely not worth that much i would give him 10-11m/yr

I'm looking at the big picture as well, we just happen to disagree. Doesn't mean I don't get it.
IMO, anyone who favors maintaining mediocrity is absolutely not looking at the big picture. The worst thing you can do is chase an 8th seed with mediocre players that aren't part of future plans. Cap space can be extremely valuable to a rebuilding team in terms of acquiring trade assets,, and maintaining mediocrity just ensures you're never in a position to have a decent chance at drafting a game changer.

Yeah, Eric Gordon was a much better player. Check out their head to head seasons before their payday:
http://www.basketball-reference.com/pla ... 01&y2=2011
Gordon:
22.3 ppg (.506 efg)
Hayward:
16.2 ppg (on .454 efg)
Gordon Hayward rebounds better, but Eric Gordon was a much, much better scorer. He was a year younger, and won 7 more games than the Jazz did.
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

If we strike out on Carmelo, I'd offer him 4-years/$40M.
5 Noah
4 Gibson
3 McDermott
2 Hayward
1 Rose
At least we'd have two guys who can shoot the three ball.

Hayward turned down 4/48 from the Jazz last summer, he won't take 4/40

Whoever goes after him will likely have to offer about $2 M more than he is "worth" to try and cause Jazz not to match.
Jazz are saying they'll match anything, which makes me worried we'll end up overpaying him.
Throw out a dollar figure!
Spurs for MSE.

Re: Gordon Hayward- what will the best offers be?
He will get. 4/44 -48
He will be a fantastic third option and second unit leader, but he will be paid as a star.
I still hope Mavs go after him ahead of Deng though.

Hayward shoots .365 from three for his career.
Last year, without Al Jefferson in the post to get him open looks, he shot .304

Ok sure, you can say that...but whats the point when he misses so many games
His tenure in the NBA has him at this
Year GP
2008 LAC 78
2009 LAC 62
2010 LAC 56
2011 NO 9
2012 NO 42
Even if your Lebron james and your missing this many games, your not getting a max offer from me, unless i have some assurance to go on, which eric gordon has yet to show

If Hayward's agent thinks the Jazz are serious about matching any offer, his client may take the QO to get the hell out of Utah in 2015.

Before the deal.
Eric Gordon games missed:
4
20
26
Payday
(then he missed 73)
Gordon Hayward games missed:
10
0
10
5
Payday
A healthy Gordon might be a max player. Teams gambled on him getting healthy. Since moving, I don't blame him for sitting out. I wouldn't be very motivated to play for New Orleans 2011-12 or 12-13 either, especially when I could get my health back to full an look for another contract when I'm back. But that's why I'd worry about paying an injured player, too.
My point was that Hayward isn't nearly as good as Gordon was when he got paid, injuries aside.

Thanksfully the MAX contract died talked a while back, it was strong last season....
You look at players like Batum, Galanari, and see that the going rate for a decent swing player is around 10 million dollars a year and above.
