No, it was all designed. Lebron would play the same way today when aggressively doubled, pass the ball, find the open man. Of course against Love and Irving the results would probably be different. The truth is that Lebron played that final the right way, you don't try to bust double teams by yourself, you don't try to score 30 against a defense that had one priority, stopping you and make you give up the ball.

If the Mavs would play the same way against the Spurs they would surrender 120 points per game in that series. They got away with it against the Heat because Wade and even Bosh (who did not have a reliable three point shot in 2011) were simply not natural fits next to Lebron. Irving and Love are, but Lebron would play the same way against aggressive doubling and zone.

That's only half the truth. There was a lot of great coaching and execution but lebron shrunk. He allowed lesser defenders guard him well, he missed easy shots, missed heaps and I mean heaps of gimme layup a he's never missed in his career he was passive etc etc. Just go watch the series again he was awful.

As good as Charlile was lebron was bad. Also dirk in goat mode

Oh please, Lebron was looking uninterested in getting by Jason Kidd and Barea. That series wreaks of sabotage the more I thought about it over the years, can't win your 1st ring and not be Finals MVP, doesn't look good for the brand.

Jesus, only Mavs fans still think they played some all time defense against LeBron. Don't be delusional to believe that ANYTHING can limit LeBron from scoring. There are several videos on youtube, LeBron passed up open drives several times. There were times where he was open at the rim and passed it to a 3pt shooter, it was obvious with anyone with eyes that he was absent and not himself.

Yada, yada, yada. Only Heat fans think that the Mavs had nothing to do with winning that title. Because you are a cocky, entitled bunch (with a few notable exceptions). It was designed and Lebron would play the same way today.

I'm not saying he would not play more effectively but yes, he would play the same way. He would certainly make more shots, I'm not denying that, he is a much better shooter now but If you say that Lebron would try to outmuscle a double team you have no idea who the guy is.

His best trait is his unselfishness, he will find the open shooter 9 out of 10 times and that's what he had to do against an aggressive doubling and zone schemes all created to make him give up the ball. The Heat players just could not make enough shots, the shots were there.

Btw, that 2011 Mavs squad would still be the best equipped to limit him because he could not post up Kidd and Marion as easily as he does it against Butler, George and even Leonard who lack the leg and core strength to hold him.

Kidd was one of the better defenders in the league against SG's and SF's and Barea never defended Lebron on one one unless it was a switch and the help was always lurking, even when Lebron got frustrated with the team defense and elbowed the guy. Sabotage?

Everyone keeps saying he played the right way is wrong. He choked. The best player in the game with the team mates he picked and everyone doing work, he succumbed to players half his size and even the Spurs finals, how is Lebron always getting done in by Boris Diaw. That was driving me nuts. Hopefully in Cleveland Kyrie can teach him how to get better handles because it's truly basic.

He may win in 2013 or 2014, its difficult to say but I don't think Cleveland would have had a team ready in 2011 and possibly 2012.

I think the better question is how Miami does. Riley would have had 16 million more capspace to reload around Wade/Bosh.

LeBron had worse #'s than Bosh in that series.

Without LeBron, bulls win the east

Wade had a terrible series for his 2011 standards

Hard to say.

Although probably no Kyrie, no TT, no Waiters.

Miami would have probably signed a 3rd star to go with Bosh/Wade.

Might have won it vs Dallas that year, Wade was phenominal vs Dallas.

Did.not.read. Mavs played great defense, not enough to completely alter LeBron's game period.

Yeah Miami replaced with a Deng like player would have gotten to the finals either way that year

And because a lot of that year wa LeBron and wade taking turns a lower usage Player would have complimented him better

Yeah I guess Miami would have still beat Chicago in ECF with the salary smartly replaced

Apparently Lebron needs 2 super stars, not just 1, to win a ring. So the answer is clearly no

Maybe but for sure they would have been favorites. East got much weaker since he was on the Cavs

Anyone saying that LeBron would have won had he stayed in Cleveland is clearly forgetting how the league was shaped back then. For one thing it would have been continued dominance of the Celtics in the east until at least 2012. As in, I just don't see LeBron getting past them until 2013 earliest, due to deterioration. Ray Allen also wouldn't have left, so the core remains in tact. So would LeBron have won in 2013 or 2014? Absolutely not. The West had way too many strong teams these last two years for LeBron to put the cavs on his back. Now of course this is all hypothetical but it was clear at the time that no stars were coming to Cleveland. It's funny how many people forget that Chris Bosh refused to go to Cleveland when trades were being discussed between Cavs and Raps

Who would that third star have been though? Looking back, most big names signed before LeBron did. On top of that, aside from a few players who were obviously playing with their team for life (Dirk, PP), after Bron, Bosh, and Wade, the next best options were Boozer, Stat, JJ, and Gay.

However, plugging in Joe Johnson instead of LeBron coulda been interesting.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

No.

Being with the Heat and what he went through the last 4 years really changed him as a player. He improved and learned how to win.

We all saw 2011 and how he CHOKED (Mavs did play better than the Heat, have a better bench and Dirk was an ace, but LeBron averaging 17pts in the Finals? cmon). He had to go through that experience, as well as Wade handing him the team, for him to grow and he ended up getting 2 MVP's and 2 Rings, 2 FMVPs. Last year was no one's fault, the Spurs were just way better.

But yeah, I don't think LeBron goes through the Celtics, Pacers or Bulls (in 2011... possibly despite it being a short series) without being on the Heat.

However, not too sure Miami gets passed Chicago without LeBron so it's moot.
