This doesn't show a coaches authority. This just reeks of a desperate move from Blatt to try and motivate his player, and he is going about it the wrong way.

I just think it was about time Blatt actually called out one of his players and showed he is the coach of the team... I don't think bringing up a contract was the best of moves (but this is Cleveland/LeBron so the quote is going to be blown out of proportion). But Love hasn't won games either. I'd be intrigued to see how this Cleveland team would be with a full roster minus Love.

Blatt was put into a pretty **** situation to begin with, all things considered, he was expected to have Irving/Wiggins/Bennett, etc. I think Blatt is toast if they don't get to the ECF, the dude's gonna be scapegoated I would think.

Both Kyrie and Kevin are being paid the max. How is he right?

Blatt: Kevin Love Isn't A Max Player

Guy puts up empty stats, meaning:
- Offensively, he does not create efficient scoring opportunities for his teammates
- Rebounding-wise, he does not even raise a hand to contest shots so he can instead try to grab rebounds
- Defensively he is laughable both on-ball and off; every big this year has raped him (Boogie, D12, Vucevic, Draymond Green, etc.)

Meanwhile, Blatt has not shown much (why not try a zone defense with terrible individual defenders like Love, Kyrie, M. Miller, etc.)? Still, give him props for calling out this overrated bum Love; it'll probably cost Blatt his job though.

That would be idiotic for this roster. That would require actual teamwork and communication.

I don't know, it's one thing to test a player behind closed doors, but it's another to basically call out a player through the media. Not many coaches can get away with calling out his players through the media, not even from some of the greatest coaches.

And lets be honest, Blatt hasn't proved jack all as an NBA coach yet to be making comments about whether a player deserves a max contract or not. As experienced as he may have been in his previous coaching jobs, he is still a rookie NBA coach.
Why so serious?

From my point of view blatt just can't handler big ego's and his main benefit is x&o's but lebron has taken away control of the x&o's and blatt just can't controll them which is why they are playing terrible without lebron. I would be shocked if blatt still coaches the cavs in 2016.

I agree. But with all this Love FA drama situation going on for a while now , not surprising Blatt or somebody in the Cleveland FO spoke about it.

Honestly this whole Kevin Love situation seems to be a major distraction to this team. One of your supposed "big 3" pieces and everyone's unsure if he's staying or not. Nor does his play suggest he should stay at times.

They need to bring in someone like George Karl.

Neither is the one-dimensional, Kyrie Irving.
Thanks for all the great memories, LeBron! The show must go on! #Heatnation

Wow, they already had little chemistry to begin with. I don't know how it'll be after this comment by Blatt.

When dealing with a potential FA who has always been at the highest NBA 'salary bracket' and knows he is valued as a max player around the league (these players all have agents, my friend), you don't tell him that he's not worth max money.

But thats what I said in my first post. I don't think he meant he's not worth a max.

But Kevin Love is, in fact, a max player. He is currently on a max deal.

He was probably misinformed/ ignorant since Kevin didn't get the 5 year extension. I highly doubt he said something like this to call out Love in the media.

Kevin Love is making Max money.

One, Blatt is wrong. Love is making max money this year. It is the maximum allowed under the rules when he signed the contract. Two, players can accept change if you go at them privately. You just can't let them lose face to the public like that.

Kevin Love IS making the max dollars he can make, based on the number of years hes been in the nba. So Blatt was wrong. And stupid but whatever

On the next deal he gets he can make more than what he makes now that's what I think he meant. He made a minor mistake with how he said it.

I do wonder if Blatt just doesn't know Love's contract

what if the reporter said after, "he is on a max deal"

Blatt says "oh okay didn't know"

we'll never know! out of context stuff via twitter can be a pain while this is funny and all

Am I the only person not upset by this? I think it was just a quick response to a reporter being a jerk and probably trying to say that the Cavs should be better since they have all these max players and I think Blatt was just moreso tryign to put him in his place. I here responses like that all the time on realgm. People will say that a player is sucking even though he's getting the max and then another person will respond and say that he actually doesnt start getting paid the max to the following year. I dont think it was meant as a diss to Love but moreso to just keep the mouthy reporter straight and to let him know that he doesnt know what he's talking about

Blatt is as good as fired, you don't say this kind of stuff about one of your best players if you want to keep him.
