The player who has surprised me the most this year.

You tripping.

Everyone looks like a max player against the Cavs.

I'm a Magic fan. Love Tobias. Don't think Tobias should get the max (not that its being considered). Damn sure don't think Green is a max player.

Difference being Green is arguably the best defensive player in the game and Harris couldn't guard a chair.

Not sure how this has reached 3 pages when the first response should have been "f*** no."

In terms of what a max player is yes he is. In terms of what I consider a max player no. To me a max player is a franchise player and top 20ish player.but he is a guy every title team needs.

First question people need to ask themselves is what goes into calling a guy a "max player"

I mean who saw, parsons or hayward getting max deals? or burke getting his deal?

When you factor in the upcoming CBA and increased cap, Green is easily worth 11-13M on the warriors. There is no way he is getting less than 10M a year, I can think of 4-5 teams (Knicks, Heat, Rocket, Suns) who would pay Green 10+M to join their team. He would improve all 4 of those teams and a lot more considerably.

Warriors have to do whatever they can to get rid of lee, so they can afford green this summer.

I'd happily pay him 12m if I had the offensive pieces and I'm sure that GSW will pay whatever it takes

Green is almost guaranteed to get the max from someone. Shocked majority of people dont think so...

Talk about being over rated on defense, the guy has been scorched on occasions. Everyone talks about him as if he shuts down every opponent he faces.

He will easily get offers around 11-12M per year. That's the most i would pay him tbh.

Only wing I can think of that got max money for playing great defense is Iggy, & even he had a few 18-19 PPG seasons.

Just imagine Payton, Dipo, and Green at the 1, 2, and 3. Ultimate wing defensive starting unit.

green is better suited at stretch 4

I know we love our 3 and D guys but Green is a Stretch 4 3 and D guy. That is legit. Actually it's not even fair to call him 3 and D because he handles the ball and passes so well.

but yes he is worth max, green is the epitome of one of those guys who's impact goes beyond the boxscore.

he is also 9th in RPM. one of the best defensive players in the league. I would say if he can be a better scorer with the ball, he is definitely a max player.

Trade teams with Harris and Green at the beginning of the year and the Magic would be top contenders in the East and with Harris GSW would be struggling to make the playoffs.

overpaying role players on good teams expecting them to be successful in bigger roles is one of the quickest ways to shoot yourself in the foot. I could see if he was like a James Harden OKC level scorer that was obviously capable of a bigger role but he's not. Paying that much for defense and some glue guy traits is moronic.

Gut reaction is no... but that's probably reflective of raw-stat bias and when I used to think "max" meant something else, to be honest. Defensive versatility and quality, just enough of a 3 to make you pay if you leave him WIDE open, decent at moving the ball...

And "max" here isn't a bazillion dollars on the Kobe scale, it's the max contract permitted for a player with his tenure. Through nearly half the season, he's been dramatically superior from 2pt range for the second straight season: he's definitely improving year to year and he's actually a shade above league average ORTG now, as well. Of course, shooting more at the rim and less elsewhere (where he's pretty weak still) helps, but that's another good sign of a player who knows how to play his game.

As long as he keeps the role in which he's currently cast, then he should remain a valuable player and for one of the top 4 or 5 guys on a team (especially a cog in so successful a squad), he should end up getting paid pretty well and deserving it.

Jack-of-all-trades, master of none. I love Draymond Green, he's the kind of player any GM, coach, player, or fan should want on their team, but he's not a max contract guy.
