Most of it is probably Insider though, so you probably can't get the old versions that easily.

How do we know they don't even do the for statistics? Add a .1 here or a .2 there. I'm not just talking about ESPN. When it comes to legacies people are shady......

And here Hawk fans just thought it was personal. Ford continuously to this day takes potshots at the Hawks selecting Marvin over Paul despite him claiming at the time that Marvin was the best prospect in the draft.

Chad Ford is a reporter, not an analysts. When he says "the top 3 are players X, Y and Z", he's not saying "I think the top 3 are X, Y and Z", he's saying "I've talked to a bunch of NBA contacts and I think the NBA consensus is that the top 3 are X, Y and Z".

Given that, the idea of him being a GM is pretty laughable. He could be a high level exec that advises an owner on GM hirings or things like that... but I wouldn't want him have actually decision making authority.

The best part is that you have to pay to actually see his content on ESPN lol.

I don't know how much he makes, but it aint that much. He's a part time reporter, works as a teacher for his day job. He writes like 1-2 short articles a week and updates the big board every couple of weeks. That wouldn't take most writers more than 5-10 hours per week.

Right, I don't understand how this can make him look bad or good when the big board's stated purpose is to get a consensus of what GMs, scouts, etc are thinking leading up to the draft. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely a douchey move if he is adjusting the ranks, but he states everywhere that the rankings are not his own and that they'd be significantly different if they were.

I wonder if it's some editor who wants the ranking to still be relevant after the fact? I wouldn't put it past Ford or other journalists either, just doesn't make sense in this case.

He definitely plays the role of an analyst also. Heck, his bio blurb even says so "ESPN Insider NBA Draft Analyst since 2002". Besides his mock draft and big board, Chad Ford puts out a bunch of articles about who he thinks is a sleeper, who is worth their current ranking etc.

Surely this screws up his credibility more than a few bad picks in a mock draft where generally everyone makes some lousy picks.

ESPN is to sports what MSNBC is to news: a bias, dishonest, sleazy joke that deserves to be laughed at.

Unfortunately, while MSNBC (rightfully) continues to be a low-rated cesspool watched by only the bottom of the intellectual barrel, ESPN remains a ratings juggernaut. That makes me a sad panda.

Doctor MJ wrote:It's so weird to me that he, or anyone else, would feel a temptation to do this given that Ford isn't supposed to be giving his opinion, he's supposed to be going by what teams actually think.

So, when MCW gets moved up from #9 on Ford's actual board to #7 on the fake version, he's actually getting further off the mark from what was actually thought at the time (#11). WTF?

I wonder if we'll ever know the story here. It won't shock me if it turns out to be someone other than Ford who is responsible for this. Regardless, it obviously make him look bad...but realistically, if Darko couldn't kill Ford's career, it's hard to imagine this would.

This is what I was thinking as well.

The gut-reaction is to point the finger at Ford, but (and I admit, I have no real knowledge how ESPN content submissions work) I highly doubt that Chad Ford just logs into some ESPN account and submits/edits/removes content from the website. I would imagine all content appearing on the website is controlled by some editor(s).

That said, I'm really happy someone caught this because it's shady as hell regardless of who is doing it.

i dont believe so. ford has never given anyone any reason to care about his opinion. he's not a talent evaluator. he's just a guy with connections who writes what he hears. he's not a basketball mind. his opinion has never mattered.

I still remember him selling Darko Milicic as the best pick in the draft and that the Cavs should consider him at #1 over LeBron and Carmelo.... Wonder if he ever changed/edited that? He was the conductor of the Darko hype train and I remember him not being that high on LeBron. He thought Carmelo and Darko were more fundamentally sound or something to that effect. I believe he also said that Darko had the highest upside in the draft?

Who in the history of the draft has EVER had a higher upside than LeBron James? Certainly wasn't Darko Milicic...

I remember he did a series of articles on Darko. Pretty sure he even traveled over to see him. But I think he deleted all of that evidence long ago. I tried to find it one time.
