We were winning last year and previously without any organization. No system to rely on when Harden was not scoring. No one knew what to do at times and looked lost. You need to have more than 1 play on offense. You can only get so far without any offensive or defensive structure. I wish him the best but happy to move on.

They have high hopes for JB so not sure if they'll bank on him especially in a season they expected to contend. There's not many good coaches out there without a job, Houston love JVG and he lives there and Thibodeu is waiting for a job. Other than that there's just Mike D'Antoni and Howard hates him. I don't think Scott Brooks or Vinny Del Negro are candidates for a head coaching gig.

Laughing at the thought of bringing in Thibs to coach these guys. Dwight and Harden will be begging out after the first practice. McHale is a player's coach, much like Doc Rivers. Give him a team that is well constructed with talent and fits together, and he's going to be able to steer it.

That players-only meeting did him in. I never thought he was liked in Houston and felt he took more than his fair share of the blame. Harden gets involved with a Kardashian and is slow to get out of the gates. Dwight is Dwight, difficult to coach, but many thought McHale was a big reason he signed with Houston. From the outside it looks like the patients are running the asylum. Giving control to characters like Harden and Dwight is scary.

Definitely not an X and O coach but a coach should not be accountable for players being lazy on the court. Somebody had to go though and you can't fire players.

who are those healthy players on the Rockets that you can run more than 1 play on offense with ?

Morey assembled a bunch of specialists who are mostly only good at one thing. McHale wasn't the best coach but he had to work with what Morey gave him.

Yeah, it's McHale's fault that Harden is more interested in keeping up with the Kardashians than even PRETENDING to try on defense.

There's still absolutely zero fault of McHale if Harden is a abysmal monstrosity on defense. That's no coach's fault.

Watch James Harden play like a defensive fiend tonight.

scapegoat

It wasn't McHale the guy who brought a drunk player to the team and destroyed any chemistry that they had. Not his fault that his "superstar" is playing like **** and is the worst defensive SG of the NBA.

McHale is not a good or a great coach but this poor start has got more to do with Harden and the rest of the team looking extremely disinterested. I'd say McHale was an average ish coach. It's not about defending him but firing him lets Harden off the hook and he's been horrible so far. It's not on McHale that Harden didn't come to start the season in the best shape and is playing defense like it's 2014 again. Sometimes firing your average coach isn't the best idea. Look at OKC with Donovan so far. He's been way worse than Brooks.

It isn't entirely his fault. Don't know how anyone can say Harden and his absolutely garbage leadership skills, motivation, work ethic, drive, etc in't a MAJOR factor in the Rockets' struggles. McHale isn't much but even if he was it's hard to do well when all your players look like they don't give a crap, the worst being your franchise centerpiece.

Mchale isnt a top coach or anything but he got them 2 +54 win seasons and a wcf after being 1 of very few teams to comeback from a 3-1 deposit.

Its more or so the timing of the firing thats a head scratcher. It'll be a trinkle down effect. They'll gut their team only to have kd not sign there amd they'll be back to team fighting for a 7th 8th west playoff spot.

Agreed.

Honestly, I would not be surprised if McHale went into Morey's office and quit. McHale could see the writing on the wall, this team will take Phil Jackson like yoda powers to coach.

Dwight is a headache; productive player who is not in his prime that depends a lot on his athletic ability
Harden's schtick is not as effective as it once was and he never plays defense

They have some nice young pieces but it starts with their two best players and they are not leaders at all......
I'm so tired of the typical......

For shame, Rockets, for shame. McHale is a good coach who deserves better.
