Do people realise that LaMarcus Aldridge plays the majority of his minutes at C?

gotta voice some respect for Olynyk on this board. The OP's question is a valid one. Every time I watch him I'm pretty floored by his impact. The same way Joe Ingles is being recognized for being a sneaky huge impact player, and the way Boris was for the Spurs in the playoffs years ago, Kelly Olynyk is starting to get that kind of attention from smart bball heads.

He's not a rim protector, but he's got pretty solid feet on defense in a lot of matchups. Both Wade's blocks came with Olynyk keeping Lebron out of the paint for single possessions. He a splashy dangerous shooter who panics defenses. He' s got a herky jerky driving game when he attacks against closeouts, and he can flat out get buckets in the paint against smaller defenders. Solid passer. Really has it all except for hops, he's strong but he's a low level athlete with short arms. Can be neutralised with a really good defender sometimes, but the fact that you need to put a good defender on him speaks volumes to his impact and volume.

Doesn't have the counting stats in 23mpg. So casual fans don't want to put him above bigs like DJ, but I'm not sure it's not a good question. Though 17-8-4 per 36 gives you an idea of what he's doing on the court. The Heat have been very dangerous with him on the floor in lots of lineups and he comes up big time quite often this year.

He’s not a top 10 center because he has a girls name and is white. Moreso because he has a girls name.

Has nothing to do with skin colour or name. Dude is just a solid role player he is not an impact starting C.

AD
Embiid
Jokic
Gobert
Cousins
Porzingas
Gasol
Aldridge
Whiteside
Horford
Drummond
Capella
Adams
Turner
DAJ
Dwight
Favors
Nurkic

That's 17 centers that are clearly better players. Val, Vucevic, Lopez, Sabonis also contenders for that. Then you also have Markannen who's probably actually a center ... next season we'll also have Ayton who should be better immediately and also Bamba. So currently he's a top 20 center, if he could play like the last 5 games consistently then he *might* break top 10. No slight on him, center is really strong now.

Doesn't score consistently, doesn't defend the pain well, doesn't rebound well.

My favorite Olynyk foul game was in the playoffs against the Wizards when Kelly Oubre -- he of the same initials -- fouled Kelly Olynyk twice ... both times hitting Olynyk with his face.

Oh my lord... never in my dreams have I ever expected someone to consider Olynyk a Top 10 Center. I liked the guy, but from his time with the Celtics... guy wasn't really consistent and had many holes to his game. I don't know if that carried over to the Heat since I don't watch many of their games.

Only a few mentions of Marc Gasol? He's still better than Olynyk.

Andre Drummond, Nurkic, Whiteside, Steven Adams, DeAndre Jordan.....even the PF/C combos like Porzingis, Hortford, KAT, AD, Blake Griffin (I'm sure there are some more).

Based on value relative to salary and age, I’d go for Olynyk tbh

Skill wise, if you actually could call him a center, he's probably top 3 center in the league offensively (the whole package, not scoring). His passing, ball handling, jumper, and craftiness around the rim is almost unmatched. But his defense and being undersized bring him back to the pack (15-25), he's just about the perfect power forward to play next to Whiteside as Whiteside masks his poor rebounding and terrible defense.

He has easily been the Heat's most important player this season. Consider these numbers:

6th among centers in RPM(#3 in offensive RPM)
Has a BPM score of 3(the impact of a star)
The Heat with KO on the floor outscore opponents by 7.4 points per 100 possessions.

Also, in the month of March he's averaging 13.5 PPG 6.4 REB 4.7 AST to 1.6 TO a game.

Wait. Earlier this season you claimed Adebayo was the Best Center on the Hest? You’ve abandoned Bam already?!?!

He's not a top ten center. I think his inconsistencies are a sum of his conditioning. I truly think he is not in the right shape for us yet. He'll need one hell of an off-season to get where I think he should be.

The Kelly Olynyk isn’t merely a top 10 centre. The Kelky Olynyk plays in a manner that transcends positions in basketball and makes comparisons to other mortals difficult, for those that do not see past the veil into the true beauty of his game.

He’s a ham and egger because he’s so inconsistent and soft. Robin Lopez abused him so bad in the first round that the Celtics almost lost. The 2nd round he took over in Game 7 and got the team to the ECF. There’s just zero consistency there. He’s an okay role player but until he strings like 5-10 good games together that’s all he’s going to be.
