he could come back and play a minimal role. however, I think he should call it a career. probably will be brought back in some capacity by the Spurs in the future.

My point is, a guy who's been with the organization THAT LONG, you'd think he'd want to keep them in the loop and say "Hey, just so you know ... im thinking about this, so if that affects your off season planning, I get it"

would you go to your boss and say "hey, i'm thinking about quitting?" unless you're absolutely sure you've made the right decision?

the nba is a business too ya know.

Crazy reach. There'd be absolutely nothing to stop him from saying I won't retire, then retiring in the middle of the season? What can anyone do about it?

The fact that he's told the spurs he's considering retirement is enough.

Taking a dumb cheap shot at the Spurs.

I’ve never been a fan of his because of all the flopping, but he was a great player and is still a capable one now. I think they actually need him this coming season more than last because they traded Danny green

No shade but... Its August & your reaching OP, nothing in the news in San Antonio about drama.

With what he has done for the organization he could retire before tip off of the 1st game & it would be ok.

I think he’s still really good and I hope he comes back, however, I’m sure the Spurs knew there was a good chance he’d retire and won’t be shocked if he does. Now if he told them he was very likely coming back and suddenly changed his mind that’s another situation, but I don’t think that’s the case at all.

What a bizarre OP...I have no idea how anyone could come to any other conclusion than that Manu should take whatever time he wants to make this decision.

I'll comment on the current title.

I'm surprised he considered coming back but that's a fan's perspective of not wanting to see a former great play at a diminished level. I always figure a player, especially one of that caliber, should play until it's not fun anymore or they physically can't be of any value whatsoever. Who cares if they're not what they once were? They're still getting paid to play ball. What a world!

If he does retire, I wonder how much Tony and to a lesser extent Kawhi leaving influenced his thinking.

I mean, in reality I am almost certain it is playing no role in his decision making at all. Manu has talked at length the last few seasons about how he's made this decision, and it's always just been about the stronger feeling between his love of the game and his desire to keep playing, versus feeling ready to start his life after basketball, spend more time with his family, etc.

Hypothetically, in some much more sane alternate reality where Uncle Dennis didn't exist and so Nephew, instead of being a massive cancer, actually played last year and led the Spurs to a title, I'm sure that would play some role in Manu's thinking at this point. Though, just as likely, it might have pushed him to go out on top, so to speak. Obviously, totally hypothetical. But no, I really don't think Manu's decision will come down to anything more than simply how excited he feels about going through the grind of another season, versus starting his post-basketball life.

Good god...wtf is OP smoking? I never thought I'd see the day where a Manu bashing thread is created because he's taking an extra 2 months to decide if he will play. The man is a legend, straight class act, he deserves to take his time. Smfh what a waste thread.

I love Manu, I love Shea Serrano, and I love this story -- "A Story About Manu":
https://www.theringer.com/nba/2018/4/26/17282894/manu-ginobili-future-san-antonio-spurs-nba-playoffs-retirement
Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Yesterday I was lying; today I'm telling the truth.

Not really the Spurs don’t really need him at all and if he came back would be quite the log jam.

Murray/Mills/Forbes?
DeRozan/Belinelli/Walker

Unless he’s backing up Rudy Gay I’m not seeing a lot of playing time.

Who is Walker? Don’t really know Forbes either. Manu is a savvy vet. He is still probably more useful than Belinelli even.

Derrick White maybe and Walker is there first round pick Lonnie Walker major upside. Manu clearly can be better than some of them but wouldn’t consider it a need for him to come back.

I think hes gonna do it, considering some of the players he played for some time with have left the Spurs like Duncan, Parker, Kawhi, & Green & his age
