Maybe FIBA stats are deflated?

Also I don’t think anyone credible has ever claimed that players would average 50/30 or other wild stats in Euro play, it’s well known that the per game stat averages are generally lower in those leagues (Chinese leagues are a different story). Might be arguing with a ghost here.

NBA is allowing inflation of stats due rules they created. Which are including both superstar calls, not calling basic violations like travels often, offense oriented rules to score more not allowing balance between offense and defense, artifically speeding up game and pace due same rules to create higher scoring games (for viewership reason) hence you cant anymore succesfully play grind basketball or any kind of different basketball style (again for viewership) etc.

Euroleague rules are balanced hence you dont suddenly see high rise in eighter individual records or team records like triple doubles, breaking scoring records old 40 years etc etc etc.

Toney Douglas is averaging 20 PPG in Euroleague.

Surely he’d be a superstar in the NBA since the stats are inflated and it’s tougher to score in Euroleague.

Mike James is averaging 20 PPG in Euroleague. How’d his NBA career go?

Alexey Sved is averaging 23 ppg in Euroleague. What’s his NBA ppg average?

Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 26 points (7/8 2-pointers, 12/14 free throws) in 22 minutes against the Dominican Republic. He's truly been humbled. If the Raptors can just recruit some of those Dominicans, I see a repeat in their future.

Assists are definitely inflated. Almost half of NBA assists wouldn't count in FIBA.

And lately, the NBA has definitely changed the rules to increase scoring/numbers in general, so they have more content and stupid records to break every week. This is quite obvious.

That’s a baseline of historical NBA standards, and that argument can definitely be made. And it has often been made.

But in comparison to FIBA standards? Might as well say an orange’s citrus content is inflated compared to an apple’s. “Inflated” doesn’t fit here.

Are stats higher, on average, in the NBA as compared to FIBA? Maybe, and I wouldn’t argue against that. But “inflated” carries a standard of comparison, which in this case is of two dissimilar things. I don’t think that standard can be met.

I implied just that a few posts above.

When I started watching NBA it was considered a tougher league than EU leagues, now I was listening to Colangelo during USA vs Spain friendly explaining how other teams play more physical.

Nemanja Bjelica was MVP of Euroleague.

That’s why he came to the NBA and became a superstar. Because, you know, Euroleague is tougher than the NBA.

Tougher and better are two different things, you know. One can expect Colangelo knows what he's talking about.

Euro players' game doesn't translate well to NBA as a general rule, of course there are exceptions. There are countless examples though that NBA players are not dominating international competitions as much as the average fan thinks they will do.

You said that it’s easier to score in the NBA than it is in Euroleague. If so, then how come MVP Bjelica isn’t dropping 30 a night?

How is Alexey Sved able to average 20+PPG in Euroleague but averaged 7 PPG on 36% shooting during his NBA career?

What a stupid thread.

How many minutes gas Giannis played in these matches so far?

You conveniently left that part out. Unless you expect him to average 27 and 13 in 20-25mins?

His minutes are on the low 20s,around 22 per game so far and yes,Mirotic left it out because it makes him look stupid otherwise.

As for "inflated" stats in the NBA,the only stat i think is definitely inflated is assists. It's crazy what counts as an assist in the NBA compared to FIBA.The other stats can be explained by a combination of more minutes, different rules, bigger court and ofc better players.

This thread has made me realize how much my analysis of basketball has evolved. When I was younger, I knew everyone's slash line from their basketball card. It was something I took pride in.

Now I hardly ever think about a player's per game averages. I don't even know them from everyone on my favorite team. I do, however, have good ballpark estimate of where everyone ranks in terms of the +/- numbers and their efficiency and usage.

This is what getting is like....

It's easier for star players like Doncic as they are given a chance in addition of being very good. The role players you mention are doing better in EL as it's more team oriented, they are getting more chances, rather than stay in the corner and watch as in NBA game. Once again, there is a difference between better league and a tougher league. EL is tougher because defense is allowed, if it had the same rules as in NBA, you would see Giannis score 50, but somehow it's not happening as is.

Let's wait and see Giannis' stats once Greece plays meaningful games against real defense.

I like how you bring the numbers but not the minutes, your trolling and agenda are too obvious, stop it.

He is subtle with the trolling, but you're right the agenda is very transparent

Greek guy who hates Giannis. Isn't that odd? Wonder what that is about.

Spanoulis is still the most embarrassingly **** player in NBA history.

What's Alex's (and those other 2 guys you posted) averages in FIBA? Is he still putting up 23 ppg?

Actually a bad example to use: Shved was scoring efficiently (ORTG > 110) on relatively high usage (> 25%) for multiple NBA teams.
