Excellent work by Silver fixing something that is completely irrelevant to most people.

I mean... What they had in place was pretty damn stupid, even if everyone got used to it, and it's an extremely easily fixed thing. Feels like a pretty sensible decision to me.

If knowing exactly how tall an existing NBA player is, changes how you see him or evaluate him, if it's an inch or two different.... that's pretty weird. It's easily fixed but it's incredibly inconsequential. Especially given the other issues facing the NBA that they aren't dealing with. And no, I don't want to talk about them here.

Sure, it's pretty inconsequential, and sure the NBA has other issues. But I don't see how making this change does anything to take away from them being able address other issues. Has nothing to do with it. It's like saying you shouldn't spell check your emails because the company needs a new printer. This is basically a clerical thing that doesn't take a ton of man hours to fix.

Nah, accurate weights may spell the end of the '15 pounds of muscle' threads.

It sounds like they'd probably be fined. That's basically what they do now, just write down anything.

Ya but is the NBA going to stop a player after a game to measure them to see if the team was lying. For example, if the Pelicans list Zion at 6'7, after the 1st game the NBA is suspicious of the listed height, so after the game they take his shoes off and measure him?

I just feel like this is going to be a new "rule" by the NBA that wont be enforced at all.

If you take away "player x has grown 2 inches" or "player x has added 15 points of muscle" threads from RealGM, you're taking away 1/4 of offseason threads on here haha.

I no longer will have to make a post in every thread about Wilt Chamberlain explaining how much bigger he actually was than most of the good centers today.

I think they will. It's pretty easy to measure all of them.

It makes it feel fake when they're obviously lying. Like when a 6'6" center is being listed as 6'10".

i get it,,,but they play with shoes ON

i can only assume that the fudging of inches has nothing to do with shoes or no shoes, but maybe more like height of hair.

will they measure in the morning when a player wakes up,,,or at night,,,or after morning stretches or therapy massage?

What's funny is that this doesn't really address this pointless issue anyway. All it says is that the NBA team has to confirm a guy's height. Doesn't say if there are penalties (it's stupid to even have them, who cares).

This is honestly more about betting than anything.

I wonder, will teams round up or down? I prefer rounded up to the nearest tenth.

We'll make it all back through bonkers conspiracy theories that teams are doctoring height and weight.

I'm sure they'll just give the actual heights, probably in quarter inches like they always do.

Player X actually grew 2 inches this summer, but since he's an upcoming restricted free agent, team x isn't going to disclose his height gain because they don't want his value going up.

I can see it now haha.

Teams will embellish anyways to increase asset value of their players. Nothing will change.

Player listings should include everything. Wingspan. Standing reach. BBIQ. (The latter can be obtained from NBA2K rankings. No problem.)

Good rule change and long overdue, this is not the WWF. I think they should also distinguish the height from toe to top of the head, not including hair such as afros etc. This will also affect player's heights in video games too , an added bonus lol.

But they play in shoes! If this crazy rule was applied across all sports basketball players would be considered to be even taller than hockey players(who play on skates) or polo players (who play on horseback).... do not like!!!

This is great. I hope they give heights for with and without shoes. Or do it without at least. Ive always wanted official heights that dont leave everyone guessing with listed heights not being accurate at all across the league.

I still don't know how they're going to make sure teams are actually reporting accurately, but it will be interesting to see any major changes. Also get how without shoes is supposed to be an even playing field, but... they player play in shoes. Kinda dumb.

I always figured you add a 1.25 inches to a player with shoes on. That's what it's roughly been like for years when looking at combine heights.

Theres a couple of combine measurements where players were 2-2.5 inches taller in shoes--obviously not wearing shoes they were planning to play in.
