Yogatti wrote:Raptors title was more impressive because Kawhi faced actual competition on his way to the finals. Eastern Conference back in 2016 was an absolute joke which Lebron basically sleepwalked to the finals. Lebron also got a lucky break from Draymond getting suspended in game 5 because if that didn't happen Lebron would've got eliminated

Kevin Love missed 1.5 games with a concussion in the 2016 Finals. Or does Kevin Love only “count” when people want to make the argument that the Cavs were a “super team”? Cavs blew out the Warriors with 50 year old Richard Jefferson playing power forward.

As for the East in 2016:

Pistons vs Cavs: One person predicted a sweep, the majority were split between a 5/6 game series

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/page/playoffs15206459/experts-predictions-east-round-1

Hawks vs. Cavs —lots of 6/7 game predictions, but after the fact, it was, “Oh of course it was gonna be easy” disregarding the fact that it was a sweep because the Cavs put on the greatest shooting display ever in that series.

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/page/ATLCLE-15445136/experts-predictions-cavaliers-hawks

At this point, it was apparent that the Cavs were playing at a very, very high level with LeBron in GOAT mode and teams would find it difficult to keep up with them offensively. People should have put a lot of money on a Cavs sweep of the Hawks as they’d have made a **** ton of money. But it’s just easier to say after the fact how easy it was, right?

2015

Hawks vs. Cavs—5 people picked the Hawks and not a SINGLE person picked the series to go less than 6/7 games. Love was out, Kyrie was hobbled, and still the Cavs swept a 60 win team but in hindsight, “Of course the Hawks suck, lol,”

http://www.espn.com/nba/playoffs/2015/story/_/id/12904540/experts-predictions-conference-finals

Bulls vs. Cavs: 5 people picked the Bulls, nobody picked a series shorter than 6/7 but when it was over, it was, “Of course the Cavs won because thr Bulls suck. Kenny Smith at halftime of game one (without Love or JR) said the Bulls were just a better team but afterwards, he talks about “How easy the East is for LeBron”

http://www.espn.com/nba/playoffs/2015/story/_/id/12802517/experts-predictions-round-2

2017—just more of the same

Raptors vs. Cavs: https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/19279167/2017-nba-playoffs-expert-predictions-conference-semifinal-matchups

Pacers vs Cavs: https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/19146280/2017-nba-playoffs-eastern-conference-predictions-first-round

2018–Cavs vs Toronto ZERO PERCENT chance that Cavs win in 4 or 5 against Toronto according to statistical models but it’s just, “LOOL, TORONTO. THEY WERE SCARED.” Toronto had a superior team in every way and so much so that forecasting models literally gave the Cavs zero chance to win in 4 or even 5. After they win, oh, of course.

Why even write that, do you think that would garner you any credibility as a rational poster?

The Cavs had a much more exciting Finals because it went to a Game 7, down 3-1, LeBron bringing a title to Cleveland, etc.

The Raptors had the more exciting overall run because Philly and Milwaukee were absolutely incredible series and there was tons of drama throughout. The Cavs didn't face a a single challenge in the East in 2016 besides the DeRozan/Lowry Raptors winning Games 3 and 4 at home and forcing LeBron to kick into that extra gear.

Agreed. You'd think this assessment/conclusion would be somewhat obvious but no....

IDK Raps title was less impressive as far as the finals themselves go but getting there wasn't less impressive, I mean coming back from down 3-1 will probably never be duplicated esp for CLE sports fans after the hellashishly long drought for all CLE teams.
Overall just about every finals has injuries to key players on 1 team or another it's really not a * imo unless they have multiple all star players injured cough cough and don't give me the Curry was hurt bs when he was playing as well as the Draymond suspension which the jackass brought on himself.
There was no question the Raptors could have beat the Warriors even with KD ,but much less chance they beat them with KD and Klay , we will never know...

Beating a superteam in 76ers with Embiid/Butler the best duo in the NBA besides Warriors, beating an elite offense and defensive team in bucks with the MVP, than matching the finals win over Curry/Dray/Klay with 1 of them missing time. Easily more impressive.

Literally not even in the same stratosphere.

I suppose if you removed all context relating to injuries that the Warriors suffered then you might think that but other than that, No.

Maybe a more impressive run to the finals but coming back down 3-1 against 73 win GS in the finals to bring Cleveland a championship is what got a lot of people seriously asking if Lebron was the GOAT.

Regular season and playoff basketball is different. James Harden is a top 10 GOAT ever if you are just talking regular season. Curry flat out of choked in the finals 2016 but 2019 he was focused and driven.

Are we supposed to blame the Cavs for Curry's choking?

The point is the Cavs beat the greatest regular season team of all time, which is more impressive than what the Raptors did.

We have to take in consideration that Curry choked yes and he was much more big game ready in 2019 than he was in 2016.

For once, you have an argument that I just can't counter.

Fun fact: Game 7 vs 76ers (an east team better than any east team that 2016 Lebron faced) the raptors had an over 5 minute stretch in the 4th quarter when nobody scored besides Kawhi Leonard.

Kawhi got carried in the finals. Got out scored by Lowry and Siakam in game 6, and VanVleet had 22.

Kawhi PPG: 28.5
Siakam PPG: 19.8

Lebron PPG: 29.7
Irving PPG: 27.1

Looks like Lebron was the one who was carried when comparing them.

Cavs are down 1-3 and than Irving scores 41 points on 82% TS! Kawhi didn't have a superstar like that, not a chance.

As some rational posters have already stated - the Cavs comeback performance in the Finals was more epic - however the Raptors' championship run as a whole was likely more impressive. Not very hard to reach that conclusion.
