I think comparing to Italy as some sort of predictor for USA is now irrelevant. We are starting to way exceed Italy and we’ve only just started ramping up testing. The numbers will likely explode over the next 2 weeks or more because of more testing.

Both lines don't represent actual case numbers, but for the USA I'm pretty certain there has been a greater difference between actual and confirmed.

Oh man, I am so sorry to hear. I would assume she's high risk and can hopefully get tested since she's already there.

Density equivalent to the dense European cities in danger in Italy, France, Spain.

Also, lots of people fly in and out for work between US and the rest of the world.

California had cases earlier but they have natural geographical distancing that has helped a lot. Think of the NY subway or even the apartment buildings where you all push open the same door, press the same lift button, etc.

I think NY has the potential to be the worst affected city in the world. Only thing that saves them at this point is their population is a lot younger on average than the European cities.

Not now. She had them a couple years ago. Her lungs are permanently weakened/damaged though. The partially collapsed lung too. Thanks for checking.

WTF. This video has me conflicted. On the one hand, all these Aussie beach dwellers can die and I wouldn't shed a tear. They know the risks so that's on them. The less stupid people the better. But on the other hand its stupid people like these that will infect other non stupid people. If only this damn virus wasn't so infectious.

Most viruses, and there's belief that COVID19 may act similarly, do not do well with humidity, and warm moist air in general. They thrive in old dry air. It's likely why cases are more prevalent further north. We also know that concentrated UV light can kill viruses, although I'm not sure that getting sun at the beach is concentrated enough. It's summer in Australia. Being at the beach is safer than being indoors where air is recirculated & there are lots of contact surfaces.

At this pint, at least for the USA, there is no way to know if the virus is widespread in the country or not until testing dramatically ramps up.

I do think travel between countries, and thus immigration, will have to be strictly curtailed for quite awhile if the world wants to be serious about exterminating the virus. We've already seen 'short-term' bans on travel between US/China and US/EU. I expect that will be quietly extended, especially if the US exploded with tens of thousands of new cases.

I told her to go to bosses at Walmart (of all places!) And tell them her medical history and that she fears for her life, so they can sign off on her going on temporary unemployment to quarantine. Our grandma she lives with also has bad COPD! I told her by continuing to work BOTH of their lives are at high risk.

I don't think the confirmed cases in the USA will reach 1 million. I think the peak will end before it reaches 1 million confirmed cases IMO.

I think soon we'll get to back to live sports with fans in attendance and large gatherings but keep travel in and out of the USA banned until further notice.

If anyone has tested positive, I would appreciate you posting your progression of signs/symptoms. We are all very likely to get this at some point. There is no shame. It's just that with no testing available in Upstate New York, it's a difficult time.
