Montreal doctor doing a study with Colchicine. This is a therapeutic, not a cure. Has this been tested elsewhere? That existing drug basically reduces the inflammatory effect of the immune system overload you see in the terminal patients.

Cuomo made a good point about an eventual antibody test. If you've already had the disease and built antibodies, you're immune to the disease and will be able to go back to work.

It's too late to contain the epidemic. Just let the chips fall where they may. That's the realistic scenario. Hospitals will just have to triage patients and decide which ones are able to be saved and which ones will die. People are not following orders and there's no way we can do the police state here like China did. So it's better to try to get the economy up and running as possible.

Was so pissed at a friend of mine a couple days ago. He just went to Puerto Rico to party for like 60 dollars round trip then shows up at my door with beer wanting to hang out around me and my kids.

We don't know that actually... re-infection rates/probability is a big thing that needs to be studied more

Congress needs to join the rest of the 21st century and allow remote voting.
Indeed. If a time would require it this would be it. Can they be sensible about this and set this up right away?
My guess: No.

We don't know for sure but it is most likely the case according to the experts.

The man had already said his goodbye's to his wife and children when Dr's tried one last thing. The Malaria drug. The best thing our country did in his crises was break down all the walls that block people from experimental drugs/treatments.
Right to Try act is one of America's greatest acts. It will save countless lives eventually. It's completely bi partisan and common sense IMO. In the past this guy would of died waiting for approvals.

It's fascinating how masks became such a hot topic. All because there is a shortage. I believe that if the world had an abundance of masks, the recommendations would be different.
As it is, across the globe, health organizations (including CDC) tell us that "you do not have to wear a mask if you're not sick".
Okay, we may be spreading and not have symptoms...
So maybe they should extend it at least to say "if you're sick or if you've been in contacted with a suspected case".
The mixed messaging is terrible, for a number of reasons.
1) The public doesn't need them and shouldn't buy them because the medical providers are more important (which they are, of course). This is the only truthful statement they can make.
2) The public doesn't need them because they don't work.
- If they didn't work then HCP shouldn't need them
- Of course doctors can't socially distance, but they're used throughout health care systems to reduce spread of germs and viruses, so they DO something
3) Only sick people should wear them.
- Um, COVID spreads from asymptomatic people too.
- Stigmatizes wearing of masks because people don't want to look like the sick ones
4) If you have any, you should donate them.
This is fair, but goes back to #2. If they weren't of use then why are HCP losing their minds over the shortage. Why is the CDC releasing updated guidelines about recycling or using hand made substitutes?
Everything goes back to #1. There simply isn't a suitable supply and that is the only message that should be given. If the supply later increases, they are going to have to backtrack on all the other things they said and that erodes trust in the leaders and agencies that are supposed to be listened to in order to get past this pandemic.
Airline workers absolutely should be wearing masks considering that they cannot socially distance either, and would essentially be super spreaders if they were carriers. Their likelihood of becoming carriers is many times more likely than most other people, behind health care providers.
The last two paragraphs are spot on. The potential refusal of backtracking is what I am concerned about. It will be a situation that countries like Korea, Japan, China have never faced before because they were going with the masks from the get go. "Lucky" for China that has gigantic manufacturing power plus the fact they were the first country that had to deal with COVID-19 which means they received lot of donations across the globe.
I also made the same point two weeks ago when I flew back home - airline workers, TSA members etc absolutely should be wearing protections. They were totally exposed out there as potential super spreaders. Think about this, if I only have 2 weeks of mask supply and I have an overwhelming amount of medical staff that will need them to treat the patients, what do I do? I can tell everyone to not wear a mask and save them for the doctors and nurses, or I can tell those critical workers like TSA members to wear them to reduce the spread, and the less people get infected, the less masks will be needed for the doctors and nurses to treat them so you let the reduced load to counter the supply shortage. It goes both ways. CDC picked the former and stuck with it - cool, but they left themselves no room for adjustment if situation changes which looks more and more likely now.
RealGM loves you, Melissa.

It was already approved for compassionate use. They allow quite a few things once doctors have determined that a patient is likely terminal since you can't really make things worse.

This is a really good read
An excerpt, it highlights how health care workers are exposed and don't have enough. Forget the general public. Protect the people who 100% get in contact with people infected.
More disturbing still, the current CDC guidelines recommend taking precautions such as wearing an N95 mask only in the event of conducting aerosolizing procedures on a patient suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19 who is already placed in isolation. This is a major change that came into effect on March 10. Previously, all clinical interactions with suspected and confirmed COVID-19 patients required an N95 respirators. For routine procedures with a high risk of aerosolizing, such as taking a nasopharyngeal swab, the CDC now also parenthetically allows surgical masks to be used when N95 respirators are not available. There is no mention of elevated protection for health care workers in regular inpatient wards, emergency departments or other sites of triage where the number of unconfirmed COVID-19 cases will appear in growing numbers. As I outlined in an open letter to the Department of Infection Prevention at Mount Sinai Health System, these revisions were made under pressure from local health authorities desperate to preserve a dwindling supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) rather than with best evidence and health care workers’ safety in mind.
