This.

Time the NBA players start having some accountability

Joe Ingles openly said he would consider retiring and returning to Australia to protect his immuno-compromised family.

Now what? What sort of accountability should he be held to?

The players who don't feel it's worth it bc it doesn't fit their lifestyle accountability

If your team goes into the win the title and you didn't play. You shouldn't get a ring IMO.

Orange county is is not nearly as bad as those hotbed areas of South Florida. Players will be tested & living in a bubble format which is designed to protect them

You can't make a serious post trying to say Orange country is unsafe for players then say you're just 'foolin' around'. Doesn't work both ways

i wasn't foolin' about that part. the virus is spreading! disney will be open before the nba stuff, right? workers will be circulating before that. i don't blame them for having cold feet. orange county may be safe -now-. but we're talking a month and a half from now, with pbc only a couple hours away!

States are re opening, tens, if not hundreds of thousands of people completely ignored social distancing during the protests, but young, healthy men in their physical primes are afraid to play basketball because of Covid. Okay.

They're concerned with not being able to get pussy and weed while stuck inside Disney World for 2 months.

I bet Harden's first question was whether or not Disney World has a strip club.

Haha while yes I am sure there’s a contingent of players worried about that- I’m also sure there’s older players with real family issues. 1) do you bring your family if your even allowed? how does that impact your game with them being around constantly? will you be distracted ?

2)jeopardizing your own health and then your family’s also potentially?

I also think the players are probably genuinely concerned about covid. Not all. But some.

I would be very disappointed if they didn't restart the season, but then again I'm not playing.

The only thing I need to understand and get more information on is the social justice dynamic. I don’t see how playing basketball or playing competitively at the highest level would diminish or take away from anything that’s going on right now. If anything I think giving players and public figures the platform to kneel and voice their opinions would be a great bonus to the cause.

Again, I’d have to become more informed on the players concerns but high profile Superstars or any players at all taking a stand against systematic racism, bigotry, police brutality and social injustices Would just show solidarity with what’s happening in the country right now. I also think silver would not stand in the way (nor should he) of players expressing there beliefs.

That’s the only disconnect for me right now and again if more details come out with more in-depth understanding - I could def end up saying ok that makes sense but right now I don’t get it. Totally understand fearing covid, family displacement etc

I hate to say it, but I can see this being cancelled. If there are really spikes happening then whose to say lockdown orders won't spark back up?

For readers of my post, please try to read the following by at least briefly suspending the "well they're millionaires, they should suck it up and do their jobs" thoughts and give it a chance.

A bunch of predominantly black men being restricted to staying in Disney World to play basketball amidst the state of the nation and the world sounds absurd. What's even more absurd is an employer restricting pay of employees if they decide to leave a confined area, or suspending them. And if you want to leave, you'll be subject to all sorts of questioning by your employer. Do employers have the right to do this, is not an illegitimate question to ask.

I know that all jobs are different, and some work agreements call for extreme conditions. But NBA players didn't sign up for this in their contracts. This is a revision that they either have to agree to or lose money, so the fact that there's significant concern here isn't surprising.

If it was up to me, I'd love basketball to be back and I'd want everyone to be safe on their own accord, not by mandate from the league, but we know that's too idealistic. There's just a lot of subtleties involved here, and more of them keep popping up the more you think about it.

I understand the problem with spending so much time away from your family, which is why the NBA should have limited as much as possible the time spent over there.

Playing less regular games, getting rid of at least 2-4 more teams and playing a best of 5 first round should have been an easy call. At this point, no one should care about giving the Spurs or the Wizards a very distant chance to get eliminated in the first round.

BUT... those players should have talked sooner. Say it before the vote. They must have known. Now it makes everything more complicated.

JB2 wrote:To me this sounds more like, "do I really want to go live in Disney World for the next 3 months" and how it impacts the following seasons schedule more than it does health concerns.

I understand it but at the same time, restaurants are opening, gyms are opening, theme parks are opening.. can't live in this fear forever.

It's for millions of dollars, and they may have to do something similar next year anyways. COVID isn't going away, and chances are slim that we'd have a vaccine by then. Also players live out of hotels half the season anyways.
