The key word here is "hype". Meanwhile you teams that have proven that they can win year in and year out, and don't get half of the exposure that the kid gets on a bad team. The league is rewarding a bad organization at the expense of those that have been more successful. You don't see a problem with that?

So the nba should ignore fan interest is what you trying to say? It’s a star driven league. Not a team driven league.

Its a star driven league because the NBA made it that way. That's my whole point. Zion isn't even an NBA star, wasn't even rookie of the year. Instead of letting him earn that reputation on the pro level, the league would rather manufacture that interest.

How does all of that success not equate to a larger fan following? The decision to promote individual players vs actual teams is why the NBA will always be behind the NFL.

The NBA tried that in the 70s and they almost folded as a league (as a result). Stern came along and saved the NBA with the star system. I think they know what works for them.

The NBA is not the NFL, the dynamics are completely different. The chasm in popularity goes far beyond marketing strategy.

The spurs are not on because they don’t project to be competitive. On top of that, they are not an entertaining team. In their heyday it was their success on the court that got them attention. Without that, what do they have exactly?

Curry is good for ratings but this may be the last season of. Zion hype if they miss the playoffs again..

The NBA screwed themselves by putting both of those teams all over the national schedule last year. Imo, that was the biggest reason for a ratings dip.

NBA needs to flex their national broadcast schedule better. Gstate is one injury away, while Zion is one Xmas meal away from being unwatchable again.

So the NBA should ignore fan interest ? Yes or no?

Only reason he wasn't rookie of the year was health. NBA can't create manufacture a marketable star, fans have to have interest. Being a marketable player isn't solely based on talent.

Denying that Zion is a marketable star seems like a silly hill to die on. Ignoring fan interest isn't going to maximize revenue. This basic marketing.

They have the history of being a successful franchise, much like the Cardinals of the MLB and the Packers of the NFL. The 70s were like 50 years ago and times have changed, maybe the league should as well.

Is it me or are those numbers low, even for a 72-game season?

Edit: I forgot that the initial schedule won't be a complete one.

No love for the real GOAT? Only 13 national TV games.
Thanks for all the great memories, LeBron! The show must go on! #Heatnation

This is only for the first half of the season. The distribution of national TV games will most likely be different based on injuries and team performance.
