I think the relationship started off strained and Beasley's work-ethic didn't necessarily jive with what Riley expected. Beasley obviously could play and score on the NBA level, but I think his reputation was damaged from the start and it scared too many teams off from ever trying to develop him as a building block.
Yeah, the Heat really should never have drafted him. I recall Riley had to be convinced of it.
There were no obvious "Heat" players in that lottery, so trading the pick was likely the better approach.
I also think Beasley's career played out as you'd expect. He was really the prototypical example of a guy likely to end up overseas. Talented but just really a poor fit in many ways. The fact that he had so many NBA chances is actually surprising.

Funny enough he went on to average 23ppg with Minnesota the very next season.
This is not accurate.
Beasley averaged a career high 19.2 ppg for the 17 - 65 Timberwolves. The Wolves were so impressed by these hollow numbers... Beasley was a bench player the next season.
That summer, he signed a 3-year deal in Phoenix. It was largely panned at the time.
The Suns released him only 14 months later.
[Note: We can all try to scour through the basketball reasons why Beasley didn't justify being the #2 pick. And many are valid. But I don't know if that's really the story here. Beasley was still considered "good enough" for the Wolves to trade for him. And for the Suns to sign him to a decent deal after that. I think there are more than a few behind-the-scenes stories with Beasley out there that would reveal a lot more about his failure to meet expectations than anything else.]
Ehhh He avg 23 before getting injured. That's where i remember the number from you, can check basketball-reference.com logs to confirm. Anyways, He was a mental case scoring machine with piss poor d thats established. Not sure what you comprehended from the post but it was more of a rant that miami didn't maximize his value than anything as im a heat fan.

Combination of “peaking” in college and work ethic.
Similar way J Okafor has flamed out in the nba. Guys who look so good in college. You figure they would succeed in the nba
But you got to change and improve yourself as you get into the next level.
Sure some guys like Ben Simmons can still be all nba and multiple time all star just on talent alone. But Simmons has a 6 foot 10 frame while plying point guard and amazing defense despite not improving on offense
Beasley was a tweener and didn’t improve himself. Bad combination for succeeding in the nba. Amazing offensive talent. Probably with right coaching could have developed into a Lou Williams type of 6th man career. Instant offense off the bench. Lots of teams can you instant offense.

HypeMode wrote:Beasley was so dominant in college. Kevin Durant came in as a freshmen and destroyed the Big 12. Beasley comes in a year later and plays even better. He averaged more points, rebounds, assists, blocks, and FG% than Durant. Beasley was 6-9, 235 lbs compared to Durant's 6-9, 215 lbs. He was more athletic and stronger than KD. Why couldn't Beasley translate that into the NBA?
Same group of reasons a lot of top picks disappoint.
He lacked commitment, he lacked the drive to become better and his overall bball IQ was lacking.
Sometimes these guys have it so easy in high school and college because of their talent they think they’re just going to roll into the NBA and immediately become stars.
BTW, comparing him to KD isn’t a good look. MB wasn’t more athletic, not even close, and he didn’t really play the same position with his skill set. Just a poor comparison. He needs to be compared to PF’s.

I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

No. That's not accurate either.
Beasley had already fallen from 23 ppg... averaging only 15 ppg over the previous month-and-change until he suffered an ankle sprain in February. He missed only 5 games and went right back to 30 mpg.
And it's not like the Wolves team needed him to come back injured... they finished the season 4 - 26 on way to yet another obvious tank.
