The NBA created clear rules for resting players, some teams are better at following those rules than others.

No. It's for three healthy players. We rested two healthy players on a road game and league was ok with it. The problem is that the rule is made for a regular 82-game schedule, not a compressed 72-game one which is then made tighter with rescheduled games missed due to Covid. We have only ONE day off between all games in the second half of the season, not including back-to-backs, of course. Jakob has played every game this season. DeMar and Patty have logged huge minutes this season. Rules need to be adjusted to reflect the highly unusual circumstances of this season.

The NBA is tampering, which should be investigated. It's amazing that they get away with this kind of thing.

The Nets players have actually been injured, rehabbing, in COVID protocol or for Kyries case a personal absence.

The Spurs rested 2 healthy guys without explanation, that’s why they got fined.

"a personal absence"? Just one??! bwahahahaha!

Or? OR?! So the rest of the league just got the notice for how to avoid fines. "Personal reasons". Got it

I wonder if they compound the fine. Raptors sitting a bunch of guys again.

I rarely make topics but WTF...Spurs are in a part of the season where they play 40 games in 68 days. They have ZERO two day breaks during that time, and were at the end of 5 games in 7 nights and the 2nd night of a back to back and sat DeRozan (who played 37 mins the night before), Patty Mills, and Jakob Poeltl and get fined by the NBA. What an absolute joke. The entire league is resting players left and right. Irving only plays when he feels like it. Al Horford is chilling in Cancun on a beach right now probably. But fine the Spurs for trying to catch some rest on during a brutal part of the schedule in a game they ended up blowing Phoenix out? This is ridiculous

You've got to be kidding me! If the NBA was to fine teams resting players, they'd have to fine every dang team!

I think the only risk there would be Lowry - hasn't he not played in a while? Unless it's ok to rest a player indefinitely (see OKC and Horford), but the others listed have injuries listed, so it's all good. Jeez. You could drive a truck through the loopholes. And still the rule doesn't reflect the current Covid-schedule circumstances.

If the league doesn't want teams to rest their guys and protect them, shorten the season. Simple.

I’m sure this has been mentioned in the thread somewhere, because it happened to Toronto as well, but the fine is for how the team reported the information to the league. So the teams you’re complaining about reported the information properly while the Spurs ans Raps did not.

And let’s be real, 25K to any NBA team is a nominal amount of money. I wouldn’t even classify it as a slap on the wrist it’s so tiny. It’s definitely not worth being outraged.

The Spurs and the raps are too honest to lie on the injury report lol Had they made up some bs minor injury instead of rest, I doubt Silver looks much more into it. It is what it is. The raps just had Lowry as rest again for tn vs the Thunder. Let's see what the league does this time.

NBA has turned into a huge joke though. I know there's covid, but look how many guys are missing games and how often. Ridiculous.

Everyone is pro gambling these days, but then they get mad about this. This is what you have to do to keep the books happy.

Many teams are resting healthy players, some even for the whole season. The NBA can't be that dumb to fine selected teams? There should be something more to it.

I agree. 25k is far to low. 25 million would motivate teams to make sure players who are healthy, play the damn games.

Tired of this BS. I just give up and don't even watch games when I know certain players aren't playing and if I'm doing this, there are many like me. Who the hell wants to watch bench vs bench?

It's obviously selective enforcement but I'm not exactly gonna shed any tears for the franchise that started this DNP-rest epidemic in the first place lol

First and foremost, Spurs did not political correctly rest their players... so I have no sympathy for them... their Icon Pop should know this better than anybody else, know what NBA is about ... just SMH

How much control do u want to give the league in enforcing who plays/does not play for ur team? If I start lebron and pull him a minute in and don't play him for the rest of the game (to avoid the resting players fine), would I/should I get in trouble for that? Or better yet, dress lebron but not play him at all. Would I/should I get fined for that? If so, then the league should just get rid of coaches altogether and let Adam Silver decide mins and rotations for every team, because thats essentially what he's doing.

There's no easy solution. I hear people saying shorten the season or lessen the games. I feel like teams will still rest players anyway, resulting in even lesser games of seeing them. Reducing back to backs is a start tho, but it seems more difficult to fix the issue as a whole than what is being suggested.

I say this is an easy fix . Have everyone active and give the star players some DNPCDs...that's it..we all know it's either tanking or resting... Just put them as active and don't play them.. league can't do anything about it..

There should be no back to backs... You get all the players giving it their all . And not have one team tired cause they played the day before.. either that..or have a back to back where both teams have played the night before..

The Spurs have been hit with Covid rescheduling and are playing a record 40 games in 68 days.

If the league honestly expects them to not rest players they're a freaking disgrace.

They're being punished for not lying like the rest of the league.
